My 1986 Montauk has a teak door on the bow compartment. In heavy seas it bounces because there is nothing securing it to the boat. Any suggestions or ideas for installing some type of fastner or hold down for it?

As a follow-up, my door also has a hole where the previous owner had a pole to support a chair. Does anyone know of stainless hardware that could be installed to close the hole? Or something to make it look a little nicer?

Thanks,

Mark

Older Whalers had a bungee secured to the underside of the hatch with a small metal loop on the floor of the hatch. The bungee was very short, and stretched tightly to connect via a small metal hook, thru the floor loop. Kept the hatch from bouncing, but stretched enough to lift and unhook the bungee when desired.

That's interesting. When you say older, how old? Mine is a 1986 and I do not have this set-up. I could install it though. Thanks for the suggestion.

This thread is in the wrong FORUM. Please use the POST-CLASSIC forum for articles related to Boston Whaler boats designed after 1990. The classic Boston Whaler MONTAUK model was designed in the 1970's. In particular, when referring to the model name "Montauk" there is great potential for confusion because the name is associated with two distinctly different designs, the c.1970 boat and the c.2002 boat.
