I have ever seen an official list of what is required in an 'Official Coast Guard Package" for a Montauk 170. Is an oar required? Flashlight? Is there a real list and does it differ from state to state?

Up a creek without a paddle!

As Ryan mentions, local jusidictions may require equipment in addition to that required by the CG.

About your paddle, in MA you would need it. All boats 17feet and smaller do, but your state may be different. Check out the links, thats what I did :-)

Good luck.

In NJ it was 16 and under for a paddle so again it depends on state. Basically I would make the dealer throw it in as a "good faith" gift, kinda like floormats in a car. It is usually a few lifejackets, fire ext, flares, mirror, anchor, and a throwable device. If ya need any lifejackets I have 23 in my garage.
