How much can this pull?

It's pretty hard to say just how much force is required, but I've bent mine slightly on several occasions while towing my 16 year old on a wakeboard. Whenever he took a particularly "good" spill I'd check it, and find that it had exceeded it's elastic limit. When I'd get home I'd just clamp it down good in a vice and ease it back to straight with no ill effects. I did notice that in later years, on some models, BW added braces running from near the top of the pylon to (I believe) the rail that runs around the engine well.

Now that he's graduated from wake boards to girls, it's no longer a problem.
