I have a planer board mast I want to mount on my 2003 170 Montauk. The best place seems to be on the bow deck, ideally between the bow cleat and bow light. My mast base is 4x6 inches.
My boat is currently dry docked in a rack so I can't take a measurement to see if this will work. My whaler board diagram is in the console so I don't know if there is sufficent backing in this location either. Could someone with their boat handy take a measurement for me? And also if someone has the whalerboard diagram take a peek at the bow area? Thanks in advance! By the way, if anyone is running planer boards I'd like to hear where you mounted your mast.

3 1/2 inches between the end of the cleat and the bow light base. Wood diagram shows 3 pcs of 4 X 4 X 1/2 inch phenolic in that area.

Planer board mast? As in wake board?

Don't those need a line going forward to brace them? With
that position, there ain't no "forward" for the brace.

Planer board as in *much* smaller than wake board - device to take your fishing line out on a quick release, like an automated outrigger-

Thanks 4 runner. The 4x6 inch base is only 1/4 inch thick, with the collar that holds the mast being 2 1/4 inches wide so I guess it will fit but might make cleating the bow line or anchor rode a bit of a squeeze. I think I'll cut a 3/4 inch notch into the base that will fit around the light base. Hopefully that will create a bit more space between the collar and cleat. Thanks again.
