GENTLEMENT I NEED SOME ADVICE! I AM HAVING A STANDARD SIZED T-TOP BEING BUILT WITH A CROWS NEST. THE NEST WILL FOLD TOWARD THE FRONT OF THE BOAT AND IT CAN BE TOTALLY REMOVED. BUT THE ENTRENCE TO THE CROWS NEST IS THROUGH A ZIPPER RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CENTER CONSOLE. THE NEST IS SITTING RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE T-TOP. MY QUESTION IS WHERE COULD I MOUNT MY RADAR (24" furuno dome)? I WOULD LIKE TO MOUNT IT SO THE CROWS NEST WOULD NOT INTERFERE WITH IT, BUT HOW? I APPRECIATE THE ADVICE! THANKS, JOSH KERSEY |

Kerz: Welcome to the Forum and the rest of the continousWave site. There are several things you should do: (1) Please turn off your "Caps Lock" and use lower case letters as you would write in normal correspondence. This is not important to your message but it will be much easier for us to read. (2) Perform a search on Google for pleasure boat radar installations or visit Ratheon or Furuno's web site for "frequently asked questions" or FAQ's. This by far will provide you the best source of guidelines on radardome installation. (3)Since Whalers are smaller boats in general, there is a much smaller percentage of boats with radar. However, the subject has been discussd many times before and you can access all the previous discussions by doing a search on "Radar" here: (4) Please let us know what boat you have (length and model) so that the discussion can be directed more to your situation. Once again, welcome to the site. |

Sounds like you have design problem with the top, you may want to look at a different way of getting up to the top so you could place the radar in the front portion of your T-top. I have seen tops where the zip-out was on the side, and another good idea was to not really have a t-top, but a top where the sides extended down to the gunnel. You would then have a ladder up each side of the gunnel to the top. Again, you would be leaving your front top area open for radar. You also would have much more shade on the boat. I had a radar on my former 21' Outrage on the t-top, but no crows nest. Capt. TM |
