I ordered a pedestal seat from Whaler to install on my anchor locker hatch. After talking to the service manager at the dealership if this could be done he suggested putting a latch on the locker to hold down the hatch. Bolt the base through the hatch. Was anyone installed a pedestal seat on their 170, or alike that can shed any other ideas or problems that I should consider?

I have the bow seat but no latch on the locker. Haven't used the seat yet or even had it on the boat while out on the water. I can't imagine using it in rough water or even smooth water while underway at speed even latched down!

Call Craig the owner of Outboard Motor Shop, the Northern California BW Dealer. 510-533-9290

He is having special custom brackets made for pedestal seats for the MT 170. The seat is not mounted on the anchor hatch. The seat is mounted to the bracket which is bolted into the anchor locker from the front side of the locker.

They used to install a ton of these on the old MT's. The company that used to make them for Craig stopped making the brackets so Craig is having a machine shop fabricating them for him.

I hope to get my pedestal seat within the next couple of weeks.
