I like this boat, but I have a few questions:

1. Is that really the anchor light receptacle in front of the steering wheel? This seems a litte silly to me. Why not the stern?

2. Anyone think they will offer this in a center console? That would make (IMHO) a good boat a great boat, especially since it seems almost as wide as a new Montauk. I am almost hesitant to buy in case they decide to do this.

Thanks

I ordered a 150 Sport that will go into production May 10th. I thought exactly what you mentioned about the center console since I origionaly fell in love with the Dauntless 16. Trouble is the Dauntless is twice the price of the Sport. I questioned the placement of the "Stern" light too. After studying the info in my boating class, it is well within legal guidelines. Heck it may even be good for fishing at night to have the anchor light where it is mounted, rather than at the stern.
I needed a boat that would fit in my garage (20ft maximun).
I really think that the 150 Sport will be a great boat just the way is is, roomy and stable, however I still prefer the center console models.

I had the same question about the light when we were buying the 150 Sport. Turns out it's nice to have it out of the way when fishing off the stern. That's why it's up on the center consoles now.

The 150 Sport and 170 Montauk are so close in size that I doubt we'll see a center console version of the 150, or a thwart seat version of the 170. We would've considered the latter, however, there probably wouldn't be sufficient demand for it, and too much demand for the less profitable 150 CC.

I've used the light on my 150 Sport just once, last season. It's fine, out of the way.
Although it doesn't have the shock-absorbing benefit of the center console, it does have plenty of space for fishing. I remove the front thwart seat and bow cushion for a comfortable and roomy fishing platform for two adults fishermen.

Moe,

While someone may have told you that is why the light is mounted on the consoles now, don't you think that cutting costs had a lot to do with it? Probably why they use these cheap aluminum poles now too...

Given that the socket is the only support for the pole, I think it's a good idea that it's lightweight aluminum.

Thank you all for the responses. I am going to consider a used 15 dauntless, as it might be a little better boat for me.

Regards,

Bob
