Does the current style Dauntless 18 gets on plane noticeably quicker than the old style (1998-2001) without add-on gear? I know they filled in the notched rear bottom on the new style. I also heard (not sure it's true) they moved the gas tank forward. It seems many people are looking for ways to improve the ability of the old style to plane. Did the new design fix this?

From riding on a new 18 I think that the issue has been solved. It's still a function of how much weight you put on the transom. I believe the heaviest choice is the Honda four stroke, followed by the Yamaha and Merc 4 strokes.
