I've been waiting for Raymarine to ship their new RC400 Portable GPS Chartplotter, & it may be several weeks before it arrives. Has anyone had any experience with the Garmin GPS Units...specifically the GPSmap 276C...as a reasonable alternative, or maybe even as a better choice, then the Raymarine unit. The Nantucket has been a very fun boat with exciting performance. Sure turns lots of heads when we cruise by. Now we just need some consistant nice weather in the upper Midwest so that I can get some hours under my belt.

Well, your not getting that good weather today from what I saw...Heavey and severe thunder storms and 60MPH winds!!! Yuck!
I have the 188C, and bought it based on what I read here, even though I know squat about them...Im glad I did, It compliments my nantucket very nicely, mounted on the CC above the wheel, I dont have to do much to tell were I am, how deep, and were Im headed. The Garmin 188c was I think a big frill Item for me but after buying the Nantucket (the biggest frill) I said what the hey...Got the best boat, why not get the 188C. The color is sharpe and crisp...and the functions are to many to list...will augment that with the Icom502 shortly..but for now using my old Icom 1M5 Hand held which is great hand held..not sure they make um anymore...I added a chart for the Atlantic and WHAM! iM GOOD TO GO....
Speaking of going out....gonna head to the Marina tomorrow morning for a day on the Potomac:)))outing number three....
Trailer that bad boy down here and take in the TeaParty...:)

I have the Nantucket and I opted for the Garmin 188 (black and white model though) with an external antenna. I like the unit because it is easy to jump between pages (ie. compass, coordinate, and MPH page...then chartplotting page where it is real easy to zoom in and out, great fishfinder page). The detail in the charts while underway is amazing.
If you click on my link and scroll down you will see how I have it placed on the helm.
