My boat (bought used) had the gas lift arm missing, this is in the rear in-floor fishbox. Can someone send me some info on this so I can replace it. I see Attwood has a stainless gas lift. I just need any numbers or length, etc. so I can order one.
THanks,
Forest

The Whaler hatch lift have SS ball and socket connectors in them. The in portion of the stainless ball is press fitted into the two mounting brackets (one on the hatch lid, and one in the well. To avoid drilling new holes, I'd contact whaler for a replacement set. If the holes have been filled/patched I suppose a aftermarket set might work. I'll check the compressed and extended lengths for you.

folivier,

Contact your local dealer. I just replaced the lift on my anchor hatch. I paid around $18.00 for it. Stainless is an option but not really worth it for 3x the price. My regular steel lift lasted 7 years. Also, other than the correct length, you want to make sure you are getting a lift with correct pressure. Easiest way is to go to dealer in my opinion.

phatwhaler out.

Folivier, I had the same problem when I bought my 97 17' outrage. Went to Boaters World & bought a stainless spring for holding up hatches for less the 20.00. It will never brake like the gas shocks. It is very handy also as when you want to close the hatch you grab the handle hith one hand and push the spring with you foot. It works well! Lou

The gas spring on my 21 foot conquest anchor hatch corroded after 2 seasons. A steel gas spring is not the way to go. Install a stainless gas spring and you should be ok.

PS Why would they use a ss ball and socket and a non ss gas spring, does not sound like good engineering to me.
