My 01 225 Optimax engines continued to display 4 min break in time left for several hours. After I asked the mechanic who worked on the motors this winter to check it out the display was cleared.

When I ran the boat fluke fishing Saturday the gauge displayed an increasing break-in time left after each re-start. Think I got up to 64 min.

Any ideas?

If it's just a display malfunction then there will be no consequences to engine but if the ecm is truely putting engine into break-in mode then engine will be getting more oil than necessary. A problem? I don't think a big problem but one that should be rectified! Sometimes these modern engines give us more info than we need (or want). At times I wish for a pull start, magneto (no battery), no alarms of any kind (let me determine whether to shut down or not...). Currently I am rigging out (customizing) a 13 Classic 1981 with an all manual 20 Merc with tiller steering (named it Flipper) just for those times when I want simplicity and just pure fun... my two grandsons will show me what the term fun really means... gee, seems I'm rambling again... beam me up... Happy Whalin'... Clark... Spruce Creek Navy
