I've been Whaler shopping on the internet and have been considering 13' hulls due to a length restriction on the lake here at the house. I want to use the boat for other areas though, and when I noticed the Dauntless 13 I thought it looked more seaworthy than the classic 13.

However, the chart on this site that gives dimensions shows the same OAL and beam for both boats. I would have thought the Dauntless beamier and with more freeboard, but I may be mistaken in this (all I've seen are pictures of a Dauntless).

If someone could help me clear this up I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Rob

The Dauntless is a deeper V hull and has more freeboard than the classic. It is also heavier and has a higher outboard rating.

I have a 99 D14 with a 75Merc (D14 only made 99 and 2000). Very seaworthy and super smooth ride. I'd go for the Dauntless. Also a center console is nicer to drive.

The Dauntless 13 is 9 inches longer and a foot wider than the Classic 13 if I recall.

Rob, will your length restriction allow for a 14' boat? If so, the 14' Dauntless would be a better choice, as the center console and reversible pilot seat were better designed for standup driving than the Dauntless 13'.

I have owned both. I would recommend the Dauntless 14 of the Dauntless 13 hands down. Wider, deeper, better ride, better RPS, bigger and better console, and a built in cockpit. The D14 is quite a bit heavier.

should have read "built in gas tank"

OK, so it is bigger it seems. Sounds good. The 14 sounds even better, would meet the lake restrictions, but from the manufacturing dates given above, I fear the wallet restrictions will be put into play. I appreciate the input guys, I wouldn't ask normally, but I haven't seen one close to home where I could put my hot little hands on it and see for myself.

Thanks,
Rob

Built in gas tank ? On a small Dauntless ? My 15' has the gas tank under the RPS but it's not built in.

Florida15,

Yes, the Dauntless 14 has a 25 Gallon tank built in under the floor panel. It is just like, but smaller than the Dauntless 16/18/22. The RPS is the same as on the Dauntless 16 and can be used for storage. I believe it also could have a live well installed as an option.

Well I'll be. I didn't know that. I wonder why they skipped a built-in on the Dauntless 15 ? Not that I would want one but I would like to know.
