BW offered the Offshore 27 until 1998. I am very curious on how many Offshore 27's were manufactured?

Boston Whaler built the Offshore 27 (at least) from 1991 to 1998.

Jason,

Contact Chuck Bennett at Whaler cbennett@whaler.com for accurate production run numbers.

Does anyone know how many Offshore 27's were made?

It is funny, I noticed that many with 27 Whalers call them the Offshore when in fact they are not? I guess they are trying to get more $$$$ when listing them for sale

kamie posted 01-14-2005 06:54 PM ET (US)     Profile for kamie  Send Email to kamie
Could be because in the Whaler Catalog they called the 27 C.C.C. the Offshore Predator. They also called an offshore fishing machine.
kamie posted 01-14-2005 06:59 PM ET (US)     Profile for kamie  Send Email to kamie
They started actually calling the Offshore 27 in 1991

They built the real 27 Offshore from 91 to 98.

I own one and it is a great boat. Where is the one you are considering?

Here is my boat before I re-powered

OFFSHORE 27

THE BOAT I AM LOOKING AT IS A 1992 OFFSHORE 27 WITH TWIN YAMAHA 225,S REPOWERED IN 1997 THE MOTORS HAVE ONLY 228 HRS. ON THEM....THE VERY INTERESTING THING ABOUT THE BOAT IS ITS A CENTER CONSOLE ONLY...NO FOWARD CABIN OF ANY KIND...OWNER SAID HIS FATHER HAD IT CUSTOM BUILT BY WHALER THIS WAY....IT HAS COCKPIT BOLSTERS THAT RUN ALL THE WAY TO THE BOW AND IT HAS A ANCHOR PULPET..ALL THE TEAK HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH STARBOARD...IT HAS A T TOP AND NEW GARMIN GPS..THE BOAT IS LOCATED IN MARYLAND AT THE PREASANT TIME....IF I PURCHASE IT I WILL HAVE IT TRANSPORTED TO NEW JERSEY....WHAT ARE YOU ASKING FOR YOURS?

jimmy c,

I would get the HIN of that boat and contact Chuck Bennett at Whaler again. With the HIN of the boat he should be able to tell you when it was build and what dealer it was delivered too. He may also have info on the specs and equipment that was delivered.

do you have any photos.

jimmy c,

I received the pics, thanks.

The boat looks good. I would guess that the interior, i.e., the console leaning post etc are not origianl equpiment.
The conosle looks farmiliar. I think it is out of Mako or it at least is very similar.

Should make a good boat. A little elbow grease and compound and wax and it should look great.

Where is it located?

Scott

Jimmy,

Chuck is probably right that it's from the commercial division. That leaves you with 3 choices in the 27 foot range.
Guardian; Challenger; Vigilant

Since Challenger and Vigilant both seemed to have a pilot house and not just a center console my guess would be a Guardian

I WAS TOLD THAT THE CONSOLE IS MAKO...I BELIEVE THE FACTORIES WERE NEAR EACH OTHER....WORKMENSHIP ON THE CUSTOM WORK IS TYPICAL WHALER QUALITY....THE BOAT IS LOCATED NOW IN MARYLAND, I AM GOING TO HAVE IT MOVED TO NEW JERSEY...

jimmy,

do us a favor and please ease up on the caps. On the internet typing is caps is like yelling and I know you don't mean to yell.

jimmy,

is this the boat that was around Annapolis going for 16k? If so it's a 27 Ofshore that someone pulled the cabin off and pulled off the whaler console and replaced with a Mako. Not sure how the changes would alter the ride and abilities?

offshore27 posted 01-30-2005 01:50 PM ET (US)     Profile for offshore27  Send Email to offshore27
kamie,

Are you saying that it was the same boat as mine (see Cetacea page 63,27 Offshore) and they ripped the cabin and hardtop off and re-did the deck. What a shame if that was the case.

kamie posted 01-30-2005 04:25 PM ET (US)     Profile for kamie  Send Email to kamie
offshore27,

That is exactly what I am saying. I was going to look at it 2 weeks ago but couldn't get up there. A couple of friends got the chance. If it had been in any sort of shape, even rough, I would have probably been fighting one of my friends for it but even the local Whaler dealer had trouble figuring out what it was.

WOW!! what a waste of unique and rare boat. Was the conversion well done??

Did jimmy buy the boat?

Sorry for the delay in getting back..I have been sick
I went to Maryland to see the boat....con job....the hull # was not what I was told....the boat is a 1993 25 ft. OUTRAGE...it had a after market bow pulpet with welded aluminum railings...none whaler console and t top...it did have a pair of Yamaha 225,s on it....admidts the snow I found cracks in the gunnels about 2 ft. in front of the transom, could not figure out why...The broker also lied about having the title. The boat had both maryland and Florida registration stickers...broker told me he had the electronics for the boat he did not....Because of the continuing changing stories the broker has been giving me along with the mis representation clearly something stinks about this boat...I passed on buying it...be carefull on this one its NOT a Offshore 27

I know the classic Outrages only had SS bow rails, but didn't the Offshore 27 have a welded aluminum bow rail? With the twin 225's on it, I'm guessing this is the 27 in question.
offshore27 posted 01-31-2005 08:46 AM ET (US)     Profile for offshore27  Send Email to offshore27
I do believe all 27 Offshore had welded aluminum rails. Any that I have seen including mine are aluminum.
That boes does indeed have a after market pulpit though.
From the pics it appears to be a 27 but certainly not an offshore.
The Offshore came standard with docking lights. Also the gunnels are totally different on an Offshore. To me this looks like a 27 Outrage center cosole with some changes like the console and the aftermarket forward hatches.
jimmy c posted 01-31-2005 08:48 AM ET (US)     Profile for jimmy c  Send Email to jimmy c
The boat measured aprox 25ft. long beam of 8ft. it is my understanding the Offshor 27 is a 10 ft. beam...This boat if in fact is a 25 Outrage with the twin 225,s would be over powered?
Backlash posted 01-31-2005 12:12 PM ET (US)     Profile for Backlash  Send Email to Backlash
Jimmy,

In my previous post I was not implying that you didn't know what you were looking at, it just seemed more than coincidental that this boat had a welded aluminum bow rail as does the 27 Offshore.

The notched transom 25 Outrage is rated for 300 HP. With the Whaler Drive option is is rated for 450 HP, so it seems this boat is overpowered which might explain the cracks in the gunnels.

Sounds like you were smart to pass on this one.

Stve

My thanks to everyone.

There is a old saying "if something sounds to good to be true...it usually is"

Such was the case here...Thanks again

Jimmy,

Pictures certainly can be misleading. I thought it looked like a 27 as well.
The beam says it all. The 27 definitley has a 10' beam.
Hope you are able to fins one that suits. I would sell mine if you are interested.
