I recently purchased a 94 Rage with a great motor and like the jet. I was thinking of trying to find a diferrent prop (impeller) or adding trib tabs. Has anyone installed trim tabs or repropped?

I placed Trim tabs on a Rage 18. It solved two of the main problems with the boat.1. Proposing in 2 ft seas 2. Tracking problems in 2 ft seas. It also helped on getting the boat on plan faster. I would recommend visiting www.bennetttrimtabs.com/projectboats.htm to review the comments from the other Jet boat owners. I do not know how it will improve the ride on a smaller Rage but it improve the ride on a Rage 18. When I installed the trim tabs, I hollowed out the foam round the 3/4" hole. I filled the hollowed out section with epoxy so to seal the hull. I then re-drilled the hole to insure it was smooth. That should keep the inner core sealed and dry.

Installed Lenco trim tabs on a '94 Rage 115 HP this summer and had instant satisfaction on the time it took to getting on plane and increase in speed. My $.02. |

JoJo, what's your speed upto? I'm still working some kinks out of my rebuilt engine, so I'm not really certain what I'm shooting for with my speed. (Only ever had the boat on the water once before the rebuild started, and I didn't have the GPS along that trip). |

The top speed on my 14 footer is 28 knots or 33.6 mph. I would like a better hole shot and slower planning speeds for rough weather, that's primarily why I was looking at trim tabs. |

What are you trying to Do or Correct on your Rage? There is no upgrade impellers availiable for your OMC TurboJet to improve it's performance.A jet's preformance is directly effected by the clearance between the wear ring and the impellers tips. The effeicency of the jet is improved by reducing this clearance to as little as .005" between the ID of the wear ring and the impellers tips.A impeller can have it's tip wear repaired by welding. A firm is making a "stuffer impeller" which bolts ahead of the present impeller on the drive shaft and improvers the amount of water feed/passed thur the pump, which should improve the low end responce, but not the top speed. OMC had a factory 2 stage High Preformance Package that changed some pump parts(not the impeller) and also some exhaust parts that that improved the preformance of the 115HP TurboJet down low and at top end. The addition of trim tabs does help with the ride,by keeping the bow down and allows to correct for roll, side to side. It's worth the price for the improvements. |

The Rage has only 40 hours on it even though it is a '94; never measured speed before trib tab install; last November I exceeded 34 mph on a flat day on Lake Erie and felt the difference...the boat handles better after the install, as well except (as always) at slow rpm's. To all, the boat is for sale as I have purchased a '05 Nantucket and am holding the boat for sale before spring '05 trade-in. Better offer wins. |
