Gentlemen:

As some of you know I am selling my 170 Montauk as can be seen in the Market Place. It's the 2003 fully loaded. I am looking at a 1992. I believe it to be an OUTRAGE II. Can anyone tell me if the tank is shot in this boat by experience? If memory is correct the mold as per the Jim Gibson model and report is a fully encapsulated liner/hull. Tank is not accessable. It is 13 years old? The motor is a 1998 Mercury 150 Optimax with hour meter at console saying 67.2 hours? I will check the compression. Any quirks with this motor? The trailer is a bunk trailer. Thank you

Holy Cow,

Yes, the the 1992 Outrage II has a fully encapsulated hull/liner and the fuel tank is not accessible. What makes you think the tank is shot on the boat you are looking at?

BTW, the Post Classic forum is for boats designed after 1990. The 1992 Outrage II has the classic Outrage 18 hull introduced in 1981, I believe.

I would be suspicious of a 7 year old engine with only 67 hours. What's the story there?

Not all people run their boats, I bought a 1989 Sea-Ray Laguana in 1995 with twin engines with 47 and 48 hours on them, the guy never had time to use it, and he was was trading in for another new boat! I ran her fine for four years! Just be sure the hour meter is correct, a motor with 67 hours should look as new, inside and out!...Jack

A check with shop computer will reveal (via the engine control module - ECM) total engine hours and also any error codes. Any authourized Mercury shop can do this for you! Clark... SCN
