I searched in vain for what I remembered someone mentioning...

My 2003 Montauk 170 has a non-locking stainless steel flush mounted, circular latch on the console door. Is there a locking equivalent for the latch used by Whaler?

My 2002 170 has a locking latch. I don't have the part number. Unfortunately it is made out of a heavy duty plastic. The stainless looks better, but being able to lock my center console is nice too.

early production run of the 2003 had a black plastic LOCK-able console door.
Later on during mid production they switched over to the stainless steel version, but NON lockable.

The brand they used was ORCA. Could not find a ORCA retailer here in my area.

I found another brand at west marine made by teak isle.
Fits perfectly into the original hole. No modifications necessary. Fits right in.

Perko makes a line of locking latches to fit almost any application. the Boat US catalog website had them when I looked a few yrs ago. BillS

I removed mine from the door and went to West Marine. Once there I was able to match up a locking latch. If memory serves me right it was a Perko and installation was a snap.
Good luck

I've been thinking about a lock for the console as well. The selection of locking latches I've seen don't look too tough. I was thinking about installing a separate lock below the latch. Possibly a standard hatch lock.

I drilled and added a separate stainless barrel latch under the 170 latch. Can send pictures friday if you are interested.
