I am looking at a 17ft 1995 Dauntless with a 115 Johnson Outboard, asking price is 11,999. Excellent condition, Sunbrella Mooring Cover, Humingbird depth/fish finder, Bait Table, Cushions good, Magic Trail Trailer

I will be using this for crusing inner bays, and some fishing in coastal waters, I live on south side of Cape Cod, Nantucket Sound.

I have been boating for 15 years, but have not owned a whaler. This model is discontinued, and reborn in 'Ventura'
Any comments??? Thanks

I had thought that the Dauntless was the center console version and that the Ventura was the run-about version with a walk through windshield. I've been after my buddy to buy a boat near me that is advertised as a Dauntless, but has the walk through runabout set up, so I could be all wet on this!...............Jack

Bulldog, until the "Ventura" name was introduced in 1998, the Dauntless line was a confusing combination of center console and dual console models. See my post in .

I bought a 1995 17' Dauntless with 115 Evinrude this spring. Paid the same amount as what you are looking at. I probably could have knocked a little off of the price but I was really in heat for it and did a poor negotiating job. When I was shopping for it I saw it listed for anywhere from 19.5K (crazy person on the west coast) all the way down to 8K for a beat up model in South Florida. You can probably find some listings at and to give you an idea of current market.

My boat was in great shape. It was used primarily in fresh water and never bottom painted. About the same package of options as what you are looking at.

With the "Dual Consoles" (bow rider) she is a great compromise for family fun and fishing. I use mine in the mid Long Island Sound area. Oyster Bay, Huntington harbor, Cold Spring Harbor and occasionally out in Long Island Sound. I get approx 40mph WOT (still tinkering with various props and pitch)with a couple of adults and full tank of gas. I have had her out in some chop with no problems but not in severe weather conditions yet. She cuts through the chop beautifully with the "accutrack" hull. I did put a Doelfin on it because she has a tendacy to "porpoise". Doelfin took care of that.

You can email me directly with any specific info or additional questions at Good luck.

Thanks Bob, I'm still trying to get my friend to go for the 1997 17 foot Dauntless (walk through) for about $12000, he just can't ever commit. He does ask me about twice a week and he did the trip distance already, 75 minutes drive! Who knows maybe this Sunday!...Jack
