After searching this site, I have not been able to find a good location to buy Merc Oil for my 90 Opti.

Any web sites that you know of would be of help. The lowest cost I have found is Doug Russell Marine...

http://dougrussell.com/Products/index.cfm?fuseaction=ProductDetails&ProductID=48&Category=7&Brand=87

They sell it for $19.00 per gallon plus shipping.

Has anyone used this dealer?

I am convinced that I am going to only use the Merc oil in this engine. For the price of repairs/engine, I may as well spend a few bucks more and use the reccomended oil. (I have read most of the posts on engine oil and certainly do not want to go down that road in this thread.)

My Merc Dealer in Dallas is selling it for $35 per gallon. I think that cost includes a kick between the legs after you buy it.

Also, how much does this typically burn in the 90 Opti? I think that I read somewhere that it is about 1 gal of oil for 90 of fuel. Just trying to determine how much I need for a season. If I have to buy on line I figure that I should buy enough for the year.

Thanks,

Jack

This website does not really collect information on the lowest price seller of oil. Try FROOGLE.COM for price information. They collect the lowest price seller of everything.

Sorry for the mis-post.

I am still interested if there is a guide on the amount of Opti oil I should expect to burn.

My Opti 150 is very stingy with fuel and oil. I am running Quicksilver DFI Opti Oil. It is at Bass pro for just under 25 per gallon I think it was.
I think you will be surprised to find very, very low oil consumption especially after break-in is completed.

The opti oil for the 90hp on my 170 cost $26 a gallon at our local Boston Whaler dealer. I think you will be surprised at how little oil your engine will burn.

My Opti 150 burns about 1 gal of oil per 65 gal of fuel.
I would expect all Optis average about the same 65:1 ratio. You will use less oil if you putt-putt around alot, I run at fairly high rpm most of the time so maybe I use more than average (in a hurry to get to the fishing hole).

Many dealers sell oil to their customers from bulk storage drums. Usually the price is attractive compared to the retail container packaging. I buy my oil this way and save about 25-percent from the individual container price.

It also helps to keep some oily plastic bottles out of the trash and landfill.
