Well, looks like Ive done it again....my second season with "DasBoat" , My 2004 Nantucket....1st season from April 12-Nov 17....45 outings! This year I was determined to beat that standing count....so, as of today...2005 Season from April 10th...45 outings!!! And I still have rest of Sept., All of October, and probabaly half of Nov....to break my own record..........how about all you other Nantucket owners???

PS Ive had not one break down, not one problem, no spider cracks...NADA.....with the 115-2, she runs like a top...added a 16P SS prop instead of the alumin. one it came with and had her up to 34.8 ona flat day recently with the canvas all deployed(TOP and Forward Dodger)So the SS prop has been nice add...Im very impressed with Das Boat still....The forward dodger and cusion has been a real great add for this boat...the 188C and 502 have been the right touch of electronics for me...

But the best part of it all is the great people of the Boston WHalers Owners Club / and Potomac Chapter that I love going boating with mostly in the Potomac River and CHesapeake Bay........

Now you know why I always have a grin on my face people:)))

Henry,

I have been out a lot; but I'd say more around 25 times. I must say I have never seen someone so thrilled with ANY purchase they have made as you with Das Boat. It's good to see, and you deserve it.

PS Someone sent me a real nice picture of the Thomas Shoal light house, which is now my desktop. The Chesapeake sure looks like a great place to boat.

Gentlemen:

Good to see you both have enjoyed the summer as much as me. My newly acquired 2005 Nantucket and I have been out every day since June 1st....I take my my daily cruise in lieu of lunch as my boat is docked ride outside of my law office...the season winds down dramatically though from the beginning of Autumn here on the Northcoast. Best to you both...I think the hour meter reads 119 hours or so...JoJo

We have taken five trips. Two were extensive. The tucket and Opti 150 have performed without flaw. The boat is solid and sturdy and good looking. I generally cruise, per GPS, at 30 to 32 MPH burning about 6.1 GPM. In the rough we drop to about 26 GPS burning under 5 GPM. We have been out in the Gulf diving, sevral lakes and it has handled all fine.

Went to the smart guages for an revised update: 143 hours of time, 221 gallons of gas used...someone will have to let me know if that is good or bad for a summer....best. JoJo

WOW for the time on boat, I do not have a Nantucket, but live in Florida. I spent July in the Keys except for a couple of Days for Dennis. I got to fish very little, weather was rough and then hot, hurricane chased all the Quality fish and most lobster from Florida Bay, at least where we were. I have not had the boat out since July, weather/wind/time. I admire all who spend more time on their boats than I do.

highanddry, 6.1 gallons per minute?? Wow that optimax really sucks gasoline!

I have been out on my Nantucket about 10 times since June. There is no real boating "season" here in Hawaii so I will be on it many more times this year. The Honda BF135 is running great and pushes the boat over 46 MPH and gets over 6 MPG cruising at 28 MPH.

"highanddry, 6.1 gallons per minute?? Wow that optimax really sucks gasoline!"

LOL, thanks, I meant GPH, sorry and thanks for catching that. Don't bet on out running me because my 'tucket also runs in the 47 range.

Yep Sal, everyone...Im pleased as punch with her:)was out again yesterday with two 18 Outrages(classics)...one has a 150 Yamaha, the other a 150 older merc...T-Top etc..we had a great time running across the Potomac River(were I do most of my boating) accationally the Chesapeake Bay) 1/2 foot going across to the Virginia side, 2 footers coming back...Probbaly will go again on Wed...when weather clears...I love a 1/2 foot to dead calm water:) But those other two boats just flew...One was Kamie's and the other Scott's...The Yamaha Boat blew us both out of the water speed wise...always has...But I just loved running 30-35 were they were doing 40-45...were usually out for 4-5 hours each time...so Im not sure how many hours Ive been out...I go by days and gas fill ups...Sal, you know Im loving this ...even into my second season with "Das Boat".

For me its like medicine! I go out for a day and I feel like Ive been on vacation for a week:)I go 4 days a week, and I know Im in Heaven! thats why this has been the best purchase of my life! Sal!!! I dreamed of doing this for 30 years! and now Im doing it!!!

My biggest issue is always dealing with the end of the boating season and what to do from DEc through March! hehe But Im good till the end of Nov. here in Maryland!!!

Very interesting to see what others have been doing

Hey Sal,

Nice looking Parker you have there. I could use a boat like that around here, especially when cod season starts. Is she new?

Good luck with her my friend and I hope you and your family can enjoy her for many years to come.

Erik

Thanks Erik,

She is near new; prior owner perhaps with the decision to buy her. My brother is a partner in the boat with me. Hope all is well with you!

The above should read, "prioir owners perhaps unhappy with their decision to buy her."

I have been out at least 45 times this year. Trips last 2 hours to 4 hours at a time. Been to Boston Harbor out to Graves light, several trips out of Portsmouth NH to Isle of Shoals, several rides across Penobscot Bay ME, out of Chatham MA, lots of time on the Conneticut River, and Friday I will try the trip around Manhatten. Will not estimate how much gas used but it was all worth it. Nantucket has been perfect and Honda 150 is the perfect compliment to a Whaler.

New, they are about 57k, which is not too bad for a 25' footer. Keep in mind the 235 Conquest runs about 80k. We picked her up for a fair amount less than what we would have paid new.

Yiddil, got several friends on my boat but anyone else with a boat is quite welcome. Launching out of Hazzards Ramp in NJ just under the GW Bridge around 9 am. Need to be early to avoid big currents at Hells Gate. Don't want to be in a smaller boat, the wakes from high speed ferrys can be awsome. I will be trailering from VT.

Well I've done it! Not so rough as some people warned but we had a beautiful day. Took about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Railroad bridge at Spuyten Duyvil was closed and we had to wait for operator to open it. Trip down to Statue keeps you busy watching for boats crossing. Keep away from everything, piers, cruise boats,Coast Guard and the Statue herself. It is really quite worth the effort as photos show. Launch at Hazzards ramp under GW Bridge.

Thanks for the great pictures.

I almost made it up to NY Harbor on Saturday, but my brother had to get back early; I am hoping we get under the Verrazano on Saturday.

I will definitely be making that trip without fishing rods; 25% chance this fall, 75% late April. I will give you a heads up Henry; either come with me on my boat or we will meet up and run up as buddies.

Actually the trip around was quite easy. To get to Hazzards ramp get on 9W in Englewood Cliffs NJ go to Palisade Ave, go East, follow down curvy road to bottom then go South to Hazzards ramp under bridge. 40deg 51.615 min by 73 deg 57.561deg. We just went down river angleing towards the Manhattan West side , followed along piers keeping distance (there are big signs keep away). When we got near the Battery End took a course for Statue of Liberty, went and took pics there. Patrol boat there will watch you and keep distance. Then went around Governors Island to keep away from ferry terminals at Battery. Lots of traffic there! Went up East River to UN, keep to right of Roosevelt Island to stay away from UN. Hells Gate is not a problem if you have reasonable HP not like 25HP. Keep left to Harlem River and watch for slow no wake zones. The RR bridge at end may or not be open but just call on ch 13 and he will eventually respond, then you are back in Hudson River. The map display on GPS is big help as always. I would do it again this fall if another boat wants to go.
Check stuff on Coast Guard Notice to Mariners available at.
