I am looking at a Sunbrella Bimini from www.boatcoversdirect.com for my 2005 170 and wanted to get some feedback.
I was interested to see where it is mounted. (Either on the inside wall or on the top deck.) If you have a picture of the mount/slides, that would be great. I can be emailed at email@example.com
I have the Boat Covers Direct sunbrella mooring cover with the support poles and it has worked very well.
Thanks for the help.

The mounting hardware goes completely on the tops of the gunnels. This area is wood or phenolic backed all from stem to stern, so there is adequate hold for self-tapping screws.
There are also two straps that are clipped to a fitting on top of the console grab rail/roll bar. I don't know if that fitting is on all Montauks or whether it is installed as part of the bimini option.

Here's the wood locating diagram for 2002 170 Montauk off WhalerParts.com. Whaler hasn't updated it, so perhaps it hasn't changed.
You should've received something like this with your boat.
Here's how Mills Canvas apparently mounts their bimini. From their website:
Factory ones I've seen have the struts on the front so the bimini folds forward, like this:
