I am new to boating and I am considering purchasing a 1998 Rage 15 which has been imported to Ireland from the States. It would be my first boat. I intend to use it as a general fun boat with the kids and also for fishing. From reading different topics on this site there are a lot of very different points so view regarding the Jet boat option and handleing. Also, i am uncertain about the availability of spare parts etc. Any help in making the deceision would be appriciated....

Please do a search on this site, you will find most of your questions answered. I love my Rage (althought I have it for sall to get a bigger boat-19'), it is perfect for protected waters with rocks, tree stumps etc. I would not recommend it for areas with a lot sea grass or open areas as it does not have trim controls (some have added trim tabs). I like that there is no prop to foul, the storge space and the VERY comfortable seating. The bimini gets a lot use-love it.

I would repost under repairs/mods section. There are several Rage owners on here who can be very helpful. Ignore the rest who just spew their opinions without considering the feelings of the boat owner.

If the engine overheats too hotly there are many parts that could get damaged-maybe just a ground wire! Any outboard mechanic should be able to help you. Sorry I don't know more to help you.

Not to detract from JimH's wonderful Whaler forum, but you need someone with Mercury Sportjet175 experience. Check in at They have more jet boat owners who know the Mercury models than I have ever seen during my several years on this site. There just were not a lot of owners of 15_Rages with the 175Hp engine who seemed to have found this site. There's a few of us with the OMC Turbojet Rages, but we cannot speculate too well on what your difficulty may be related to.
