I am considering purchasing a 18' Rage jet boat. I currently own one of the original 1992 14' rages with the small Yamaha engine. It has been alot of fun for the family but it is definately underpowered. What does anyone think about the Rage 18 with the Ford 285 engine?

The Rage 18 is a fun boat read my other posts. I would recommend this boat with a couple of modifications. Bennette trim tabs, and a wedge on the jet.

If you type in Rage 18 in the search field you will find a bunch of information. Some good and some bad. The good is mainly from current owners who know how to drive a jet boat. The good also understand that the rage 18 has a Ford engine and American turbine jet. The bad is from people who dont own a jet or who owned a Rage 15.

Even with the Ford 285 the boat is still slightly under powered. (42-45 max mph) I am changing the Heads and manifold to get more power. I am changine the impeller to a five blade. Email in a couple of months and I will let you know if it helped.

You should plan on slight modifications such as a Wedge(American Turbine) and maybe Trim tabs both made a big differance on the boat.
