Well, tomorrow Im helping install a factory "sun Lounge" even though I have a fishing package in Das Boat...gonna take the rod holders off and move the cooler to the stern of the boat.........not seen a Nantucket with this configuration yet so will be a first for me.........wanted to extend the dow cusion and laying down potential to a longer layout...then extend the canvas connecting the bow dodger to the window piece to the Bimini top why way of adding another piece of canvas...and whaLa Im done!!!!Not sure how much more platform I will have but Im imagining it will be at least 4 more feet to the CC.............whats you think? Has anyone tryed this????

my best, Henry AKA THE YIDDIL

PS this will go with the T/T for Das Boat, a 13 fotter 1964 hull number 12939, new Trailer...Ill post picks as soon as I have them...from the install and the T/T

Hey Henry,

Can you do me a huge favor? Once it's been installed can you post some pics? I have been thinking of doing the same to my 190 Outrage.

Thanks in advance.

Yiddel, I`ll be waiting for your pics too as I think we both have the Mills dodger and the BW bimini, so you`ll have a custom connector? You are going to modify the Mills connector?
cshorer, you have the Mills dodger/BW Bimini too?
Yiddil posted 05-13-2006 09:18 PM ET (US)     Profile for Yiddil  Send Email to Yiddil
Yes, thats correct, Mills Dodger and BW Bimini, BW Mills window connector...will add a piece to that so it connects to front of Biminiprobbalt a 8 inch piece of fabric with zippers on both sides, add a zipper to the from of the bimini as well........but thats next up...first the "sun deck" addition. Trying to get as much "laying down room" on the front end, will take off the fish pole holders and relocate to stern, remove cooler and hardware, keep the CC cusion/tackle area as is....should fit from everything I have researched....and Im looking forward to being able to be more comfortable laying down straight, having dry storage flooring under the platform, and being able to remove it at will:)Should be a hoot:))) Ill let you all know after the install tomorrow................then Ill work on the canvas issue ............

That'll be really comfy, Henry. Great for those casual snoozes out on the Potomac.

I ordered a Nantucket shelter for my Dauntless last week, should be here in a couple weeks, with luck I'll have it installed for the river swim.

Sorry, no picks today as the heavans broke loose with a huge rain storn, mostly completed, except fpr cusion snaps.
Absolutely a must have if your going to be snoozing on a Nantucket:))))Canvas issues will be worked on next after I finish this....wait till you see it Marlin:))We gotta plop that T/T to Das Boat in the Potomac as soon as the weather clears, or maybe the Potomac swim ...Ill maybe bring her for Mark to use....

More later....

Sounds like what i wanted to do as well. My wife is begging for more room to lay down on in the 170. I would love to see pics as well.

Thanks....great post. Maybe BW will see and make it an option.

Well here are the pics of the "sun Lounge" Addition
to the Nantucket Bow Cushion..............Looks, Great, very comfortable, and didn't take to long to finish up today..........although I had help with the starboard because its so heavey....and Im still hurting....but the rest was great!!!Fell asleep on it today:) hehe.......I can now stretch out full, and I still have room to spare to both ends of me....:) I wish I had done this a year ago....

Hope this works....

Next up is the bow dodger connected to the window to the bimini...and side curtains...and Im done:)

Steve thanks..thought Id go nuts last nite!!!!!

Im pretty pleased with the way that worked out, may even put the rod holders back(there would be less of them...) but the comfort is what I was after...and since Im still revovering, I need all the comfort I can get!!The install wasn't much of anything with "Scott" helping, and me still not 100 percent....but even so, it was a snap...tisk tisk:0

I am suprized it costs as much as it does, but its custom to the bow of the Nantucket:) so I guess thats the way they work it....well worth the money...was gonna build one, but siad Nope, no wood on my Nantucket!!!

The starboard is pretty heavey, took two of us to lift and turn it....and what a great platform it makes!!!fishing, sleeping, etc etc etc.... more later....

can you "stretch out" enough to sleep on the sun lounge? I'm looking at the 190 outrage and might add one for those really late nights or early mornings shrimping on the river.
Yiddil posted 05-28-2006 09:39 PM ET (US)     Profile for Yiddil  Send Email to Yiddil
Well Yes, I slept on it today stretched out straight and still had head room and foot room, and Im around 6 ft. tall:)

Yes, I went down to Das Boat today and there she was sitting pretty in my slip, freshly painted aqnd ready to go!!!!! I wasn't suposed to take her out...and I was feeling a bit skittish, still recovering and all, but....

Wham...we were gone in a second!!!! Gorgeous day out on the Potomac!!! and yes The Sun Lounge was terriffic...slept on it, amoung other things:)))

The other half origin. thought it a bad idea, but was won over immeadiately after she stretched out on her:))

Should have done it sooner:))

I gotta say, it was adream come true to get back out on "Das BOat" after the nightmare I went through...wasnt sure I would ever see her again:))It warmed my heart big time:) I thank G-d I got back here again...felt like a bad dream....and now Im back...still recovering, but back!!!

Is there a storage space under the cushion? Do you have a picture with the cushion off and the support installed. I have a 190 Nantucket with the fish package and was entertaining the upgrade. Thanks!
Yiddil posted 05-29-2006 10:51 PM ET (US)     Profile for Yiddil  Send Email to Yiddil
Sorry, dont have those picks yet...there is storage behind the CC cushion as it folds down, but there is quite a few inches below that before the sunlounge comes into play...there are 3 supports around the bow, and another on the CC...if Im not mistaken I used the cooler cleet and took off some of the fishing pole holders, but thats all that was removed...and the cooler is now between the stern seats and works well there...I have new picks but have yet to post I went down yesterday and today...absolutely fabulas weather on the potomac the last few days and tomorow Also!!!

Is it difficult to access the anchor locker when it come time to throw the hook?
Yiddil posted 05-31-2006 10:29 AM ET (US)     Profile for Yiddil  Send Email to Yiddil
Still dont have the pics for I am laying on this sun lounge recouping and not taking it off the boat...when I can I will,,,There is storage in the lockers in front of the sun lounge addition, but the sun lounge itself is mostly a "Platform" of starboard, pretty thick and heavy, with the cushion on top of that and sbnapped down.......there is however plenty of storage under that lounge from the CC to the bow platform to store lots of stuff...but its under the sun lounge platform, on the deck:)..........Go to Parts at WHaler and you can see and down load a drawing...........I guess you could make one if you wanted it to be made out of teak or mahogany....But Id rather not have the wood to deal with...........The cooler was relocated to the stern between the two stern seats and really works well there...:)
Yiddil posted 05-31-2006 08:44 PM ET (US)     Profile for Yiddil  Send Email to Yiddil
Here are more picks I just posted...hope this shows clearly the layout with the sunlounge, cooler bow dodger etc.....

Yiddil posted 06-01-2006 10:31 PM ET (US)     Profile for Yiddil  Send Email to Yiddil
Realized I didnt really answer your questions...........
No problem getting to the ankor locker....if thats what you want to do....I always pop it out and have it at the ready if I know Im going to drop my hooks....I usually have a float plan as to what Im going to do before I go out based on weather conditions and what Im looking to do on any given outing.......

Ive stored things under the "Sun lounge"last weekend...and thats fine...really not a problem removing it if thats what you want...although shes a pretty hefty unit so im just leaving it be....If I ever get the canvas done it will go from the Bow Dodger to the end of the Bimini...and down the sides.......then I might even cam\p out on her witha bug net stretched...long way down the road....The Picks show my layout....

Henry, can you take a few pictures of the construction details? Hard to tell what you did with the cushion on there. I'd really like to do this on my 17 Outrage, so any details you can share would be a big help, like what materials did you use, who made the cushion, how is everything attached, etc. Tell your story, man!

Yiddil posted 06-04-2006 08:11 PM ET (US)     Profile for Yiddil  Send Email to Yiddil
Thanks Erik:) I have no fire burning on the canvas...but the Sun deck was a priority as Im recouping from some serious surgery and wanted to be comfy relaxing...or should I saw more comfy:))

ROY, The construction details are basicly housed at the Whaler parts site , one sheetare parts, the other is a diagram of all the parts and how they fit in the boat.....

There are no special tools...conter sink, drill bit, Philips scew driver....some caulking...and the parts come from your WHaler Dealer...Stainless Steel, Starboard(thick stuff) scews, snaps...thats all part of the package when you order from Whaler...for a different boat, I don't know what they have , you will have to check the parts list..if they dont have it or make it, you will have to measure and make it yourself, but even the cushion is custom to the boat from Whaler, so im not sure how you would get a copy made from another source, probabbaly can't...A whal;er dealer can help....and if they dont make it, you cna see about a platform w/o a cushion out of starboard or teak or what ever you prefer....

I prefer not having any wood to take care of on my Nantucket...:)) HOpe that helps...........Agin, I did not make this item, I ordered it custom fromWHaler and installed it!!!:)

Well what do you know! I just assumed you were some kind of super-craftsman, Henry, and now you've burst my bubble. Nice option though. I'd still be interested in seeing how they did it, however.
