The Boston Whaler boat sales brochures frequently market [the Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS] boat as a do-anything boat, and list skiing, family and fishing in that order. In my area [the Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS] boat is considered a fishing boat primarily, and for the price of a new 180 DAUNTLESS most would opt for a 20 foot COBALT runabout. [The Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS] boat certainly is not plush enough to appeal to the inland boaters. I have a 1999 model [of the Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS], and love it as a fishing boat, and I'm just curious what ya'll think about the marketing of this boat as a family/runabout. [The Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS] meets my fishing needs even better than some of the classic Boston Whaler boat hulls, as mine came pre-rigged with trolling motor in bow/ fishing seat in bow. Also the rear fish box/storage makes a convenient casting platform.

Thanks

Most of our 180 DUANLTESS models get sold as a family boat. The advange is the fold up rear seat; yours did not have one. It easily converts from a flat casing deck to seating for the whole family. The 190 Outrage does not have the extra seating and is desinged for trolling. The Montauk doesn't have the HP or seating. Ventura is very similar but no center console. Dauntless is a great all around boat.

I love my [Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS], don't get me wrong. [The Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS] just seems somehow slighted as a fishing boat in the sales literature. The foldup rear seat is a cool feature, and I wish I had it. I suppose fishing on inland lakes doesn't usually involve trolling as much, except for striper. I forget that in salt water fishing the rear of the boat probably needs to be less cluttered than in freshwater fishing. For our purposes, [the Boston Whaler 180 DAUNTLESS] is eminantly more fishable than my 1970 16' hull.

My 2000 model also has the removable rear seat rather than the more modern fold down seat. I actually like the removable version. When the rear box/seat is removed it really makes for lots more room in the cockpit. Sometimes this is more important that having a platform or a bench seat.

I agree that this is a very versatile boat. It can be easily utilized for almost any near-shore and in-shore boating activity.

"The 190 Outrage does not have the extra seating and is desinged for trolling" I have to say I've never heard that before, and Im really suprized to hear anyone say that because The Nantucket/Outrage 19 was not designed for trolling specificly...with its deep V its more suited for the elements of deeper water...but trolling????? I wouldn't say that as I cruise in mine, and with the sun lounge now on her, I have added seating in the stern (cooler Package) to the existing rear stern seats (one on each side) which makes for a nice seating arrangement...
designed for trolling????? Nay nay!!!

Yiddal, it is just more of the subtle Nantucket bashing your so oblivious to most of the time--lol.

Your sun lounge is very nice, great job you did there. Must come in handy trolling huh? I am going trolling this coming weekend, should be fun, my scuba tanks are aired up, got the gas tank full of high dollars gas, installed a new dual battery system, with two Optima batteries, the big OptiMax fired up instantly and we are ready to troll. I think the point was simply that the 190 Nantucket/Outrage trades the full-width seating (and the aft storage) of the 180 Dauntless for better access close to the transom, which is useful when trolling, and for other big water fishing when you'd rather be IN the back of the boat than ON the back of the boat.

Bob/Marlin,

Yep, that’s exactly why I like my old (2000) Dauntless rear removable seat.

Ditto. I like my 1998 Hull with the removable back seat. It makes for a nice open fishing area. I only put the seat in when I have too (i.e the wife tells me to.)
