We intent to put the Lenco elec. trim tab (12x12) on the 1997 20’ Outrage, but it seem the OEM swimstep is in the way. I would like know what's option of other owners overcome with this obstructed? (I would like to keep the swimstep with the boat) and where is the most optimum location to install. Is there any picture?
Thanks in advance.

I'll snap a few pics of mine for you when I get a chance. I have OEM Bennetts on my 97 Ourage 20, and the portside one fits under the swim platform with no issues.

You may need the edgemount tabs to lower the profile/clearance needed for the actuators.

Here is the underneath view of my swim-step, as you can see the left bracket touchs to the bottom of the boat:

I would think you can mount the trim tab hinge to where it is just touching the swim platform bracket. I dont thing you would have a problem.

This thread is for older Whalers with a different hull shape and dead rise but it may help.

Does anyone have experience adding trim tabs to this model Outrage with a kicker motor. I would like to add both and use the available transom space appropriately.

rumrunner,

I have a 20 Dauntless which uses the same hull as your Outrage. Can you send me those pictures as well? My email address is s a m l a n d s m a n @ c o m c a s t . n e t (without all the spaces). Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the pictures. I see you have the factory 9x9 tabs. I want to install some M120's which are 10 inches wide. Hopefully they will fit without modification.

pw out.

Thanks for the pics...now I can show my dealer that they can be installed! How much of a difference in ride did the tabs make? Is it worth the money? Thanks

Well, can't speak for the "difference" in ride, since the boat was equipped with when I bought it (used). I believe they are o.e.m. though.
What I can say is that I have experimented getting the boat up on plane with and without using the tabs. Slightly faster getting up with the tabs. However, the big difference is the ability to level the boat side to side in deference to wind, passengers, etc. Also, to be able to get the bow down when there is a chop and you are operating at reduced r.p.m.'s.
Is it worth it? I'd say so, but not sure what you're being quoted.
Also, I only have the joystick control, no fancy indicator lights. Works fine for me.

Thanks everyone for the trimtab suggestion. Finally I got the Lenco trimtab 12X12E (edge mounts type). The installation takes about 4 hrs and easy of DIY task (if I could do it then everyone can)the drive on starboard side barely fits under the swim-step with a little creativity, and there is no way to fit the standard type Lenco trimtab without modify the swim-step. There is couple pics related to this installation I just uploaded to the link below.

Nice job sj,

We have the LENCO 12X12 edgemt. tabs on our 1998 OR-20. From experience I recommend the "autoretract switch with LED position lights" too.

Thanks Bob. Lucky me, one of the CW member email me was also suggest about the LED switch with auto-retract so I plunged some extra buck for the 123 LED indicator trim switch and I love it. Skeepyjack
