I just started my 2000 Merc. 90 4 stroke for the first time since Sept.

Prior to starting as it was turning over and at idle RPM there is a 'squeek' that seems to be emanating from somewhere in the lower unit.

Adding some RPM the noise abates.

Could this be a sign of a failing water pump?

Here's what I would try. Spray fluid film, or WD40 or any such spray lubricant up the driveshaft where it enters the powerhead. You should be able to see the exposed shaft up around the upper shock mounts. You can see it turning when the engine is running. Try to get the lubricant to go up.
See if this helps.
