Hello Boston Whaler boat folk. New to this forum and have always been a great admirer of the Boston Whaler boat line of smaller fishing boats particularly the 17 Montauk and 190 Outrage as many of the local guys, N. CA bay and coastal Salmon and Striper hunters own the older 17 Montauk or 19 Nantucket/Outrage. I'm looking to get in as it has been a dream of mine to own. I have the fishing disease and just need to be on the water. My needs are mostly inshore bay and delta with an occasional dash out the Golden Gate on calmer days or option to trailer up the coast to Bodega and beyond.

Many questions I have and ask if this board is available for feedback and advice on buying used with character pre 90 and all the potential headaches and unknown problems therein or just bite the $ bullet and buy nearly new or even straight off the showroom? We've all been stung before by pre owned gear. There are a lot of BW's out there for sale and they seem to hold their value.

Are there archived boards dealing with first timers? This forum feels like my kind of neighborhood. Many thanks for being here.

Fishdream, hit the archives and use the search function as much as possible. Most of the questions you come up with will be answered that way. Then ask away, just don't get put off by the off color answers to your questions as there are more than a few "old salts" on this site waiting to put you in your neophite place because they have nothing better to do. Hang tough, buy a Whaler, spend more time with it than the internet and you can't go wrong....F.O.

Thanks for the boost and I'm sure I'll need to endure a hazing of sorts but I have fairly thick skin...

I have been fishing a shallow water skiff in the Long Island Sound, area for years and just took the plunge and got a 190 Montaulk . It goes in the water March 31st and I am ready to fish like wild. I use to live in the Bay Area and love that delta. Good luck with your fishing and boating dreams.

Sheik,
I spent a week in the Hamton Bays area last Aug and had a glorious afternoon chasing a school of champagne blues around in a 19' center console (not a BW) slamming clousers on top chewing through 12 lb test ultragreen. I was sold then on getting my own boat. It's different on this coast no Blue fish but we have as you know a great Striped bass fishery

There are over 400,000 archived articles. They are all about Boston Whaler boats. Read on. Also read the FAQ. Also read the REFERENCE articles. We generally do not collect advice on angling. There are many websites which specialize in angling information and tips. That information is usually quite localized. The discussion is organized into nine distinct topic areas. Please become acquainted with them.
