According to boat trader you got the boat for a steal.
Good luck

CCR -

You got a great boat - how could you go wrong!?

Re: trailers - inexpensive aluminum trailers are available from Continental Trailers in Florida - just be sure to modify whatever trailer you get to fit the boat appropriately.

See the reference article on this site that is all about trailer selection and outfitting for your Boston Whaler boat.

Spend a little extra to set it up correctly and it will make your overall experience much better!

Enjoy the new boat!

Thanks for the information. I will use it. I was looking for a Montauk but I felt this was too good of a deal to pass up. A plus is I got it from a local Whaler dealer. The boat belong to a guy who traded for a new 220 Dauntless. He only put 70 hours on this one!

The Dauntless is a great boat. Looks like you got a great deal also.

The Whaler is probably still under warranty.

Congrat's...Got pictures???

Something wrong there. No, I believe what you paid for the boat; I'm wondering if this dealer is feeling the pain or sees a big market slump coming. WOW!

Very good price. I remember when looking at the Nantucket`s 2 years ago the Dauntless`s were more expensive and didn`t include a trailer.I think I read that that was partly because the Dauntless hull has more detail to it. Plus your getting the added electronics. Each boat has it`s nice features,I like the folding rear bench seat on the Dauntless.
The money you`ve saved can go to all the extra`s you`ll want.

JIMM I`m with you there. When they called me about the boat I was expecting to get over there and see a Dauntless 160 and hear "oh.... did I say 180???" But it was real. I talked to the mechanic that was giving it a go over and he told me the boat will fly (he took it out at trade in). He said the motor had no wear on it and looked great. It still has a few months of warranty on it as well. I will get a few pics during sea trial.

WOW, I can't find an 04 Dauntless 160 for under 20K.

Well the sea trial went off without any problems. The boat was as advertised. the 135 was very smooth. The smartcraft gauges are awesome. I noticed the motor was mounted all the way down. By the spray it looked a little low. They are going to move it up one hole. I still can not believe the deal i got. I just got my email from Steve at East Coast Trailer and it is ready. So the boat was $18,000 and the trailer was $1900. $19900 total! I`M A PROUD WHALER OWNER!!!!! WHOOO-HOOO!!!

CCR3,

Great buy on a great boat. Hope to see you out on the bay one day soon. If you see a 16 Dauntless with two or three guys fishing and it has a GPS screen covering 1/2 the console that would be me.... give me a toot.

Let me know what dealer that was. Can you say sliding market or what. I am envious. I shopped for 2 years before I found a similar boat - no where near that price.

It was a local Marine Max in Gulf Shores Alabama. BTW I could not be more pleased with the HI-TECH trailer I got out of Panama City. I will post pictures soon. The boat is back at the dealer to get the motor moved up a notch. It sits all the way down and I could see the "spray" from a low motor. ALSO for FYI, the local paper from Mobile Al. has a 2000 22ft Dauntless I think with an 225 OPTI for 27k asking. I can find a link if anyone is interested. I think it will be the same one I saw in Gulf Shores in front of a Jewelers business for sale. If so it was very nice and loaded out.

I think you did very well. I traded a 2001 Daunt 18 and 135 last year and received more than that on the trade in.

No matter what anyone says there is a premium for fresh water boats, meaning they were not used primarily in saltwater. We visit South Carolina in May almost annually and several years ago I was amazed at the lower than average prices for all makers of boats in this area compared to the Great Lakes area.
