I just took delivery of a 2007 180 Dauntless. I want to install my fishfinder/chartplotter and was able to locate
the mount area of the hull from the supplied drawing.

I followed the existing wires in the channel from the aft area to the console and found a pull string. Thought I was home free until I noticed the cables at the console have been foamed together. Neither the pull string or anything else will get through.

Is it OK to dig out the foam, it seems odd to me that it is there. Or, is there another channel to run the transducer cable I am missing.

You will have to remove enough foam to snake the cables through. I have the 01' model which has a different console and different channel (as in no channel). I helped my friend who liked my Dauntless so much he bought the 03' model. It has the same console and setup you are describing and we simply removed the foam. I think it was Whaler usual way of showing they dot the eyes and cross all tees.
