I'm considering moving up to a Ventura 18 from a classic Montauk for the sole reason of having a full width windshield to deflect the 55-60 degree air when seated. We do most of our boating on a bay in Northern California which is flat enough much of the time to be seated.

Can some of you comment on how the Ventura works for planing while standing at the helm?

Are the wheel and controls easy to reach?

is the helm far enough aft like the center console boats to give a reasonable ride for those aft of the windshield when the chop gets to 2 feet?

What is the consensus on the need for trim tabs?

SEGrin, with your longer helm seat post, does your head clear the canvas top when it is up?

Thank you all for the input.

I run my 18 Ventura standing up much of the problem, even with the Bimini Top Up...which is now up almost all the time as I don't like getting fried in the sun anymore. I have hydraulic trim tabs and consider this a "must have" item with this hull. It just gives you alot more control over hull attitude under a variety of conditions and loads. The tilt helm permits easy adjustment and I find the standard conceiled side-mount control is fine standing or sitting. This is a great all-round hull that should meet a variety of is substantially more boat than the Montauk.
