I just received my invite to the Boston Whaler 50th anniversary Boston event. It mentions that there will be several new models for 2008, including the 345 Conquest, 180 Dauntless, and 170 Montauk, all of which will be premiering in 07 as 08 models.

I was not aware they were making any changes to the 170, anyone have any pics?

Speculation: With the new hull design, they could probably offer an in-deck fuel tank as an option. If you didn't select that, the cavity could double as a livewell. That would be pretty neat and would offer some hull stability in seas (ballast low on the hull). A taller console might also be in the offing.

Wonder if they'd ever bring back the "all sports" 17' Hull ala the 17' Supersport from the 80's? Perhaps they have a "170 Montauk Sport" model in the lineup too?

Interesting information and fun to speculate. I really don't have any info on what the change will be; but I'm as interested as you are. We'll be needing a "camp boat" in the next few years - something that guests and newbies can safely operate...I'll be watching closely.

Look for a higher console and a livewell as an option(like the 150). No built in tank for '08.

Is there any possibility that they might have a provision for a front trolling motor mount built into the front deck area?

Anyway that livewell could be fitted to an 05?

There is an option for a trolling motor plug on the bow. I do not think the livewell is able to be backfitted. The bilge well on the 150 is twice the size as the 170 so it can fit the livewell pump, thru hull fitting and bilge pump. I believe the hold up on offering a livewell on the 170 was that they had to retool the molds for the new opening.

I've seen that option on the whaler site. It always say TBD on the option list. I assume that means "to be determined". Has anyone ever actually seen this as a factory option? The pre-rigging to the console for the battery would be a nice part of this option if it actually exists.
