I am considering replacing my fiberglass resin fuel tank with a 27 gallon Tempo tank (model C2714)in an effort to avoid ethanol-related problems down the line. Can anyone tell me for sure whether this tank will fit underneath the RPS of a 2004 Montauk 170? I do not want to have to slide it in/out to fill it, nor do I want to raise my seat.

Will the Tempo work as-is?

By the way...there appear to be no significant differences between the Tempo and the Moeller tanks...both red plastic. Can anyone offer any pros/cons for one make vs. the other?

I have a Tempo 27 under the RPS of my 2002 170 Montauk. It sticks out approximately four inches measured at the base of the RPS and a little over five inches at the top. There's probably two inches between the forward side of the tank and the RPS mounting bracket. However, I can't position the tank further in because the fuel hose entering the rigging tunnel is in the way. I have a two inch wood block that prevents the tank from shifting forward and pinching the fuel line. While that may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, it allows me to refuel without moving the tank because the gas cap is clear of the RPS. The tank will fit under the RPS without lifting it but mine is raised because I found the seating to be too low and I wanted to place some Dri-Dek tiles under the tank.
