I have looked at the Boston Whaler site and searched this site and can find no reference to the capacity, in gallons, of the livewell offered as an option on the 150, 170 and 190 Montauks. I assume it is the same livewell on all three boats. Could someone tell me the capacity of the livewell?

Also, in looking at pictures of the livewell, I see that it is placed directly over the sump and bilge pump. There appears to be an opening to access the sump area on the port side of the outside of the livewell. If you had to change the bilge pump, or even put in the drain plug in the sump, would it be possible to do so through that opening? I wouldn't think you could see what you were working on once your arm was in that hole, and the livewell istelf behind that opening would make for some interesting angles to negotiate.

I was presently surprised at how large the livewell is on my 190 Montauk. I fish Long Island Sound and keep about 10 bunker in there for several hours. I don't know the exact number of gallons, and it doesn't seem to say anywhere in the literature, so I will try to find out the oldfashioned way and measure it.

From what I've seen in the posted pics the livewell looks about the same size as the KeepAlive we have on our 170. Safe bet, 15-20 gallons.

Since you have the livewell on your 190 Montauk, could you explain how you access the bilge pump and sump area? Do you have to work on that area through an access hatch on the side of the livewell, or has Boston Whaler created a different access location - like farther astern in the splashwell, for example? Thanks!

There is a hatch in the splashwell between the livewell and the transom. Very easy access to the bilge pump, a little more awkward checking the fuel tank which is underneath the livewell and you have to crane your neck to look at it. Lots of room on the 190. I would guesstimate that it was a little larger than 20 gallons based on my sense of aquarium sizes. Maybe 25 or even 30. But I have to measure it.
