I'm thinking of trading my 2005 130 sport for a 2006 170 montauk. I'm looking to get more room for fishing, boating w/the family, power to tow tubers or skiers (kids & adults).
I love the sport but it's a little small & I'm not comfortable on bigger lakes or rougher water.
My sport is paid off & I would have to finance the montauk, which my wife isn't thrilled about. I'm curious if anyone else has gone from a 130 sport to a 170 montauk & was it worth it?

My first whaler was a 13', although it was around 20 years ago. I was out of boating for the entire time and purchased a 170 last winter (2006 Merc 4 stroke). Apart from your personal financial analysis this is a no-brainer...Please excuse the brevity of this reply it's just that there is nothing to talk about...go get the 170.

We moved from a 15' SS to a 170 Montauk this spring. What did it for us was the test drive in a 170. You should have seen my wifes face, she got this big grin and said, "WOW, this feels like twice the boat". We talked about a nice used Montauk. When I told her I wanted to go look as some used ones she said, "I want a new one". I almost fell outa my chair. We ordered the new one within 10 days! Get her in a 170! That's my story, Hal of Waseca, MN
PS, We say a 190 Montauk on Lake Minnetonka in September, she had me turn around so we could take a second look!

Thanks for the responses. My mind is made up...I'm ready to make the trade, now I need to convince the wife, which won't be easy.
Hal, I'm from MN also...how'd the 170 handle on Minnetonka?
