I just have to share my excitment that my new Boston Whaler 190 Outrage has arrived! Fresh from the factory with the Boston Whaler shrink wrap still on and some road dirt from the ride up from Florida but still new and shinny. The dealer has already started to prep her for her maiden voyage on the Long Island.

This will be my first power boat that our family will own. I can't wait till spring for some fishing with my son and some crusing with family on the weekends.

It's been almost 30 years since boating with my dad on our family's 26-foot Lyman.

Interesting that you got the Outrage what with the hysteria over the Montauk 190.

What depth and radio unit s do you have installed there?

I can just imagine how excited you are.

Don't wait too long to do your first trip. I see it is in the 40's this coming week. Take a vacation day and get out, even for a 2 hr cruise!

Congratulations!

Ditto...I launched my new 20' on march 12, 1994 and drove it home offshore in NJ for about 80 miles....wow was that cold! I will NEVER forget it nor would I do it differently...go for it! If you just do the slow breakin period, you will have a great time.

sent you an email...congrats on your verado...follow the break-in instuctions EXACTLY and don't forget the part about running at WOT for the prescribed amount of time. It is very important you do that to seat the rings...don't be afraid to do it, the verados like it!

That boat looks pretty well ready to go, no sense winterizing now, we have maybe six weeks! I would get her wet and take her for a spin. Trailer looks real nice also! Enjoy , you picked out a nice boat and motor!....Jack

wmeier,

Outstanding...good luck with it.
Tell me a little about the actual purchase. Did you order it long ago? What convinced you to go with the 190 Outrage.
I'm very interested in trading my 05 170 Montauk for one. I'm looking for an 07 left over for the right price.

Congratulations on a great purchase. For your first boat purchase, that is a big step up and a very good boat.

Good memories

Thanks for comments and kind words. Also, the tips on the Verado...very interesting.

I have fitted the boat with the Garmin 545S and Standard Horizon Quest 1500. I also went with the aluminum trailer to save some weight when towing.

The Outrage vs Montauck..my reason for the Outrage is that I like the lines on the Outrage. The bow profile is a tad higher and inside a little deeper. Other then that it really was just a personal taste issue of the lines..I prefer the round lines of the Outrage.

How much of an advantage does that 150 Verado have over the 135 Verado that comes stock with the 190? One of the Dealers in my area here in NJ has an 08 with the 135 Verado?
wmeier posted 03-02-2008 08:12 AM ET (US)     Profile for wmeier  Send Email to wmeier
Joey...I'm not sure how much more advantage in power the 150 vs 130 however my reasons for choosing the 150 was that for about $500 more how could you go wrong. It only takes one incident that the more power would get you out of trouble that would make it pay for itself. Also, my case we will sometimes have a full boat 2 adults, 5 kids (7 total) ...so the extra power will be of good use in those particular days.

Wmeier:

We have a 180 Dauntless with the 150 Verado. Unbelievable engine. We have had seven or eight on the boat at times and there is no problem whatsoever getting on plane. The extra weight is barely noticed. Good luck with your new boat.

I am also considering the Garmin 545s. I like how you have it flush mounted. Does this require a flush mount kit? Does it require an external antenna with flush mounting? Thanks in advance.

Your right about the extra $500 for the 150 Verado. I believe the weight is the same as the 135. I spent some time today at the dealer. If I want trim tabs and the 150 I will have to order it. The extra motor warranty offer expires on 4/15/08.

I have found a 2006 190 Outrage leftover(new) with a 135 Optimax hanging off the back. I also found a 2007 190 Outrage leftover (new) with a 135 Optimax on the back. But, I just can't get past the desire for a Verado on the back of a 190 Outrage. I don't think I will be happy with an Optimax even though the prices are right for the leftovers. Any 190 Outrages owners with Opti's care to comment?

The Opti 150 is a strong engine, it sips fuel and oil and runs like a top. It does make a little more noise but that is not the issue with me that it may be with others. The noise level is just not that bad but it is more than a Verado I have had the pleasure to see in action. My thoughts, the Opti is cheaper, more efficient, lighter and more powerful especially pound for pound. You will not get the DTS but you will have SmartCraft and hydraulic steering that works with one finger. The Opti will probably have an advantage in quick planning and acceleration and may give a bit on top end.

So have you have the new boat out yet for a spin?

Nice looking boat, looking forward to hearing about your first trip.

Where is the dealer with the 190 with the 135?

Where are the 06/07 leftovers located?
Thanks,

Dealer here in south NJ has both the 06 and 07. Both have an optimax 135 not a 150. My concern is depreciation, re-sale and the butt-kickin I'll give myself for not getting an 08 with a Verado 150.
highanddry posted 03-06-2008 08:44 PM ET (US)     Profile for highanddry  Send Email to highanddry
Well, how much off are they? If it is significant amount? Ilike the Verado too but an mot unhappy with the JD Powers award winner Optimax. the 135 is down a bit on power but still much lighert than the Verado, should perform well. If you gotta have a Veraddo well then go for it. How much off the left overs vs initial depreciation of both may be the way to look at it.

highanddry:

2006 is about 32K, the 2007 was about 37K. You can order an 08 for 39K(150 verado).

What NJ dealer has these boats???

Yeah, I did leave that part out, wasn't sure if you were from NJ. Call Todd at Hance and Smythe Boston Whaler, Manahawkin, NJ.

That 32,000 deal sounds pretty good, might be able to work in some extras above and beyond. The other is to close IMO to justify since we are talking Opti 135 vs Verado 150. If it were an Opti 150 then it would also be something to consider.

After thinking about this for some time now, I beleive my choice will be an 08 with a 150(Gen II) Verado. Now, if everything lines up right I may make it happen. I still have to trade-in or sell my 05 Montauk. I have to say that the Montauk is one hell of a boat and I'm very happy with it. The annoying need to upgrade never goes away though.

Congrats on that sweet boat! Do you happen to have any pictures of your 26 Lyman? In the mid 80's my slip was flanked by 26's on either side. That is one gorgeous and heavy boat. In the summer of 86 I was the recipient of a tow from one of those Lymans.

I got a look at a brand new 190 Outrage with the T-Top yesterday at the dealer. Its very nice and well built. I then took a look at an 2004 Nantucket with an aftermarket top. The Whaler top looked much better and had more support off the deck. I still don't know if the extra 5K is worth it. I'm guessing about $3500 for an after market top.
