I could use some advice on the Outrage 190. I have a 2007 with a 135 Verado that my family and I used last year all season and loved. Although I wouldn't trade the boat for anything in its class, there are two things I would like to improve. The first is that we get an above average bow rise on take off, especially when I don't goose it (more fun when we don't have to watch the 3 year old roll past on the deck). We are thinking about the trim tabs that are now available for the boat. Does anyone have tabs on this boat, and do they help the ride and bow rise?

Also, I have found the tow rings on the back too close to the water for serious skiing/tubing. They work, and keep the kids happy, but I'd like to get the rope up higher if possible. A ski tow product, or an activity platform like Whaler has for the 200 Dauntless would be great. Has anybody found a solution that works well with this boat?

Thanks in advance for the help!

gator, I`ll be adding tabs to my nantucket(190)in the spring. I have a yamaha 150.
Are you trimmed all the way in starting? I am most of the time.
I`m adding the tabs mainly to keep the bow down in short chop to avoid pounding.
I will get the edge mount 9x12 or 12x12 lenco`s. I am also considering getting the system from them called trolling tabs which have an electric trolling motor mounted on each tab. These may or may not work with the swim platform . I have to take some measurements and check with lenco.
Do a search on trim tabs here and you`ll find alot of discussions.
A CW member with a nantucket has lenco`s and posted the pics here and had emailed them to me . I`ll look for them. They may be in a CW reference article also.

Don't leave home without them. They will make a difference not only when starting off but also running on step.

and I repeat....and do look for the thing jimh did as the photos are helpful.
Aside from the Honda 150 the Lenco tabs are the best thing I have done for my 190. JimH has done a whole article here on this subject and has some of my installation photos. If you have a swim ladder platform you want to use the edge mounted style. The tabs make a tremendous difference in how the boat feels, sorry Perry, especially in the ocean. It is a easy install took about half a day, just use lots of 3M 5200.

Gator 500,
Lenco and Bennett trim tabs are your best bet. My 210 came with Bennett from the factory. Bennett has a good reputation for durability and longevity. OMC (Volvo Penta) is making a new trim tab that is currently used on the Dauntless 230. Besides the bow rise you are going to improve considerably the "smooth" ride in rough waters with the tabs. Learn to properly trim the engine with the tabs so that you can improve your gas consumption with the tabs fully deployed. The 190 Outrage is a great hull, putting the Tabs makes it a superb hull. Some will debate no need for the tabs. If you can guarantee smooth conditions always when you are out on the water I also would not go with the tabs.

Does anyone who actually has installed the tabs have any reports?

Do the tabs help trim the bow down at low planning speeds?

Do they help ride by keeping the bow down into seas?

Do they improve low speed planning and reduce minimump lanning speed?

Are the results noticeable in improved overall performance?

I can't speak for the 190, but I had a Sea Hunt 202 for two seasons. In the second year I added Lenco tabs and they made a huge improvement to all of the above.

Thanks for the advice, guys. It sounds like your experience is that the tabs will help the ride. Got a birthday coming up, so I'll probably treat myself before my wife decides I'd rather have a new couch! For those of you looking, let's keep up on price, brand, installation, etc. For those already installed, thanks again for sharing your experience.

highanddry,
Yes to all the questions you posted. My "ex" 190 Outrage did not have the tabs, but I fished the 190 with and without the tabs and the improvements are noticeable. I personally would not own a 190 or 210 Outrage without the tabs. A friend of mine has a 210 without the tabs and in rough seas getting home (comfortably) is a real challenge. In my 210 with tabs the ride is considerably better. Of course the tabs are NOT necessary if the seas are smooth and your tolerance for rough rides is high. I personally like the smoothest ride I can offer to my passengers and family if given the option.

You really have two choice for tabs, Bennett and Lenco. I went with Lenco for the sole reason that I thought they would be less complicated. Not having any hydraulic lines to fail was a plus in my book. The whole installation took about 3 hours. I could have done it in 60 minutes but I measured, measured and measured again. It also took me a while to dig up the courage to drill into my new boat. At the time (2005) Lenco had a DVD of the installation process, I'm not sure if they still have it.

If you order the 190 Outrage with the new t-top option BW recommends trim tabs. Extra weight and wind resistance I would imagine. Seems with or without the top you can't go wrong with tabs. Better to have them than not, particularly on a windy day in a chop.
