I will be operating a 1998 Ventura 20 with 200-HP Mercury of same year. I will be mixing oil into gas on this boat. What octane gas should I use? I don't know what was used in the past. Thanks.

The outboard motor owner's manual should make the fuel requirements clear. Most outboard motors of that era run on regular-grade unleaded gasoline.

Jetronic - The octane is not the problem. Manual states 87 octane is sufficient. At current prices, why pay more?

What you need to be concerned with on the Cape is 10% ethanol based fuel. Just type in Search function here and you'll find all the conversation you need.

My Dad last year added a Racor in line filter to the fuel line on his Montauk up there because of all the problems marinas/mechanics were reporting with 10% ethanol fuel. The ethanol will draw alot of moisture into your tank with the Cape Cod climate being so damp.
