Last weekend took delivery of a new 305 at St Joe, MI. I have been on this site for several months and all the comments help alot.

The sea trail went ok and the boat handled as expected; wonderfull. The VERADO were ran well and the controls were easy to get adjusted. Only had a few minor issues and Gull Lake Marine (my dealer) seemed eager to correct.

I am a fisherman and wanted to troll at a slow speed with good gas economy. Was able to maintain 1.5 mph with one 250 hp engine and a fuel flow of .4 gph I was pleased with this on new engines.

Will start rigging with downriggers this coming weekend and rig the outriggers. Should be a good fishing machine.

I am thinking about radar- 6watt open. Is this hard to self install,

Congrats on the 305 - they are great boats. The radar is the only option that I didn't get with my 305, however the dealer seemed to indicate that adding it would be very easy and that I could do it myself since the Northstar system is extremely integrated and pretty much "plug and play"

You probably mean a 6,000-watt RADAR. A 6-watt radar won't see very well.

In the United States, most transmitters, and especially anything like a 6,000-watt transmitter, have to be installed by FCC licensed technicians, however, there is a special exemption provided for marine RADAR sets. Marine RADAR sets can be installed by non-licensed personnel on recreational boats. So you are welcome to undertake the installation yourself. The exemption is granted based on the manufacturer providing all the necessary instructions and the system being inherently non-adjustable. So there won't be any complicated radio problems with the RADAR. It will just be a mechanical and electrical installation problem. There should also be good instructions, as those are necessary to get the exemption.

Please use SMALL BOAT ELECTRICAL to discuss topics related to boat electrical system or electronics. Thank you.
