Hi, All. I'm heading to Cape Cod this weekend for a survey & sea trial on a 1999 18 Ventura w/ a Mercury 135 Optimax. Not my first boat, but this would be my first Whaler. I live and boat on the North Shore in MA. I may have a few questions along the way, so don't say I didn't warn you! Thanks in advance for your help and patience.

Welcome aboard John. I look forward to any "post classic" owner joining. Please remember that when you pull the trigger we all love pictures! You can post links to those pictures here. Again, welcome aboard, and I know you will join me in rooting for a Yankee turnaround, and the return of Posada and Arod.

Welcome John. This is a fantastic site. I keep a 1988 Newport/Montauk at Gloucester Marina. Good luck with the the survey and sea trial.

Thanks, Guys. Assuming the boat checks out OK, I'll post some pics ASAP.

Do I sense a bit of tension between the Classic and Post-Classic owners?

Sal A - Sounds like you're a Yankees fan, but if you own a Whaler I guess you can't be all bad.

Newtauk1 - I'm in Beverly. My wife is a teacher in Rockport. We actually got married at Stage Fort Park and spent some time at the Cape Ann Marina. I normally make the trip up to the Annisquam a couple times a year. Maybe I'll look you up one of these days. I'm sure it'll be easy to find you. You're the guy in Gloucester with the Montauk!

I get to the Rockmore in Salem Harbor through out the summer. In the water now. The was a nice Edgewater CC for sale in Marblehead a few months ago.

Ah, yes. The Rockmore. I know it well!

I agree about the EW. I spoke with Webb a couple times about his boat. Unfortunately, I was in the process of selling my Sea Ray and wasn't really able to look very seriously at the time. Nice boat, though. Someone made out pretty well.

Well, the survey and sea trial went well. There are a few small things that need to be addressed, but overall the boat was in good shape. The 135 Opti moves her along nicely. A little loud for sure, but nothing I can't live with. Still waiting for the Merc tech to come back with the engine data. Assuming that looks OK, I should be closing shortly. I'll post a few pics once this is a done deal. I’m looking forward to getting back on the water!

I have a 190 Montauk which is the boat of (my)dreams. I am in teacher education, hope to meet your wife, and I am a Mets fan unlike Sal. The Mets are good, Whalers are better. And Sal seems to be a pretty good guy after all.

I hope it all works out. And thanks Sheik... The Yankees are just hard to watch this year.

[Made a purchase] today. Looks like I'm officially a Whaler owner. I should have her home in a week or so. It'll be good to get back on the water. In the mean time, I'll post some pics if I can. Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

Sheik - My wife is also a Mets fan. (She's still a Jersey girl at heart.)

congratulations 18 ventura you will enjoy your boat, it a any thing you want to do boat. yes there is tension between the classic/post classic owers. your boat will handle just as good or better on the sea on any bay waters lake, river, than any classic whaler in it class. the mercury you have it a good motor just keep up the maintenance. there will be more people buying new boston whalers if can buy them with out the outboards.good luck with your new to you whaler. happy boating Dan ,91 ventura 16sl 91/90hp yamaha still going strong
