Go for it It's worth every penny. I have a new Montauk 19 on order which will arrive in July and I already have a Keel Guard in my shop ready for installation as soon as I get my hands on it. I had two other new Whalers and I installed a Keel Guard on each before they hit the water, I think it's a good investment long term.

If you take the time to read many of the earlier posts, there are a lot of fans. I have installed the keel guard on my 20 ft Ventura as a result of all the positive feedback. Can't say I have beached the boat (yet) but I plan too.

I ran a Keel Guard on my Nantucket from the first strake and reaward about a third of the length of the boat. It is effective for protecting the hull during light--intentional groundings.

If there is even the remote chance that you will beach your boat, then do it. Worth every penny.

I recently had line x sprayed on my keel for my Montauk170.
I did a 5inch x 6 foot strip. I like it a lot. It already did its job when i hit driftwood last week.
