Have rod holders been added to the center console on the Boston Whaler 170 MONTAUK? I'm interested in adding about four rod holders, but I am not sure what my options are right now. If you have [added rod hoders to the center console of a Boston Whaler 170 MONTAUK], please post pictures. Thanks! |

I personally don't like drilling holes in my boat so I went with rail mounted [rod holders]. I've seen many pictures on this site of addtional holders on splashwell, port and starboard gunwales as well as the side of the console. Do some searching on this site and I'm sure you'll find some good ideas. |

I've seen [rod holders] mounted on the splashwell. What I'm looking for are vertical mounting rod holders that won't get in the way when I'm trolling, casting, or fighting fish, thus looking to mount them on the center console, somewhere and somehow. Any ideas are welcome. |

My 170 MONTAUK came with four vertical rod holders in the front of the console, probably part of some fishing package bought by the original owner. The holders screw mount to a bracket assembly which in turn screws to the front of the console. I have to believe you could find the part numbers for these and order and install them yourself with little trouble. The package also includes a cushion which forms a seatback for people seated on the cooler, but it is semi-useless as the holders project over the top of the cushion and dig into the backs of anyone seated on the cooler. |

These guys make a great rail-based system, which includes rod holders. http://www.ecpdb.com/rollcontrol.htm#Accessory Bill |

I guess I should tell you that I already have 4 on the center console and 6 more rod holders used for trolling on the side rails. I would like to add a few more ON the center console if possible. Maybe 4 more about the same location as the 4 now infront of the cc. |

If you have 10 rod holders, you may want to consider one of these or something similar. |

WT - We bring A LOT of gear on the boat. So just want more rod holders. Your son goes bass fishing a lot of your 170, I'm sure he will need more rod holders too. There are rods for each technique. =) |

I added 8 rail mount rod holders: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/002757.html What I found was the back 4 are good for trolling, with one set pointed outward, use your longer lines on these. The front 4 are great for rod storage while fishing. You can also use them while going fast, but it's best to bungee the rods down if it's bumpy. |

I made a rod-rack that replaces the cusion on the seat-back. This works great because you can adjust the angle by moving the seat. It easily is reomoved when not fishing and was easy to make. The only downside is it makes the area behind the seat a bit crowded. |

I once saw some pics of some rod holders mounted on the rear splashwell in the Mtk 170. Anyone have pics of that? |

Have had a lot of use and great success with Precision Marine articulating holders. http://www.precisionmarinehardware.com/html/rocket_launchers.html Easy to adjust for trolling or upright holding-use them on my 2003 Montauk. |
