Well I finally finished with all the upgrades today. She was delivered on 6/6/08 and I thought I could do everything in two days, duh.......

Heres what I did:

Keel Guard
Skeg Guard
Std Horizon VHF
Jensen Stereo
Northstar F-210 Fuel Meter
Garmin GPS
Garmin Depthfinder
Washdown pump, Pro-Blaster (Fresh & Salt water)
Fuel/Water filter
6 Blue LED lights, two on lower livewell, 2 lower console, 2 in front of console (color is awesome at night)
2 Batteries with selector switch
Full engine cover
Full boat cover
Engine splash cover made down under.
Changed out steering wheel for the one that has the black foam grip.
New trailer jack with double wheels, the factory installed jack was cracking up my floor tiles in the garage plus it moves arround much easier.
2 SS fishing pole holders mounted on the rear grab rails.

Have taken her out 3 times so far with 9 hrs total engine use. Have not fished yet but might throw in a line this Sunday. As mentioned before the space and fuel use are fantastic, have only filled her up once and according to the gauge have 3/4 of a tank left. Will try and upload some pictures this weekend.

Whalerdog:

Yes I did go to town. I put everything into it that took me 10 yrs to do in my old Montauk. I was at the Miami boat show 3 yrs ago and saw a couple of 50 footers with these beautiful blue lights lighting up the decks. I arrived home and started checking and purchased the Seasense LED strip utility lights and installed them in my old 17.

As mentioned they looked super at night and thats why I installed them in my new 19, it looks like an oceanliner.

To make matter more interesting I was just layed off from a major airline effective 9/5/08. Luckily the Whaler is paid for and I'll just take retirement. No rush looking for a job as I just made the last payment on the house, talk about timing. Now I have lots of time for the new Whaler.

I'll do my best to get those pictures by Sunday, promise.....

Well I wish you luck with the new boat and semi retirement.

I filled my boat when it said 1/2 full with a 200 lb person on the front. Unfortunately it took 40 gallons not 30 so watch your gauge when low.

I too would like to see the pictures Fred.
What is an engine splash cover?
Whalerdog posted 08-27-2008 09:49 PM ET (US)     Profile for Whalerdog  Send Email to Whalerdog
Look on the BW performance charts on fuel consumption. Compare the 135 and the 115 at 30 mph big difference. 115 is not looking as bad after seeing that.
Ferdinando posted 08-29-2008 07:33 PM ET (US)     Profile for Ferdinando  Send Email to Ferdinando
Rick:

The splash cover is a cowling cover that you can use all the time even when running the boat. It protects the engine cover from the sun, scratches from fishing lines, etc.

The other positive aspect is that it comes in colors so I can really change the appearence of my engine. I really don't like the black color of Merc engines, so I changed the color of mine to a light gray which contrasts with the black. Plus it has my boats name on each side.

It is a little pricey, $200.00 but I think it's worth it. It's also made in Australia.

Rick:

I installed a regular Merc filter with the spin on filter. I heard that the Racor is to restrictive so I backed off. I installed the filter inside the little compartment in front of the engine. I took a small pc of starboard (about a 4" circle) and used 3M 5200 and 2 small screws and attached it to the inside transom. Then I attached the filter.

I had to buy about 5' of additional fuel hose to make the connections. It worked out fine and looks very clean. I also installed my wash down pump inside this compartment in the same way only I placed it on the small platform which has a 1/2 plywood backing according to Whaler. I did the same thing I did with the fuel filter I used a pc of starboard and saved myself two additional screws in the hull.

I also placed two Seasense LED lights in the same area so I can check things out at night. Came out pretty nice.

I took the photos of the filter and I am going to download them now, bear with me as I just bought a new laptop and I'm just getting used to it.

Fred does you boat have the factory installed bait well?
Ferdinando posted 09-04-2008 06:05 PM ET (US)     Profile for Ferdinando  Send Email to Ferdinando
Rick:

No it does not, I use it for dry storage.

Fred

Rick U posted 09-04-2008 08:45 PM ET (US)     Profile for Rick U  Send Email to Rick U
Does the dry storage drain into the bilge or through a fitting in the transom? If it's through a fitting in the transom, do you know if it's the same drain location Whaler would use for the live well drain?
Ferdinando posted 09-05-2008 12:01 AM ET (US)     Profile for Ferdinando  Send Email to Ferdinando
Rick:

Let me correct something. I do have the factory baitwell installed but without the factory circulating livewell. Yes it does have it's own drainage, ck your owners manual and it will show you a picture of the transom where each drain hole is identified. Fred

Okay section 2 6 shows that drain a little left and a little lower than the right scupper, Is that accurate? My boat s still not here s Ill do some planning from your pictures,
Ferdinando posted 09-05-2008 08:41 AM ET (US)     Profile for Ferdinando  Send Email to Ferdinando
I think thats right but I'll ck it out on my boat anyway. If your still waiting on your boat I can feel your anxiety, I only had to wait 2 months and I was climbing the walls. I did kill time by purchasing all the goodies for it so when it arrived I was ready to pounce on her.

Just in case you need the info, Scuba Steves was where I got the best prices for all my equipment, I think I saved over several hundred dollars easy, if not more. Very good service.

Found this on the "Splash Covers". Pretty cool. You can change the appearance of the engine and personalize it, too. A lighter color than black might make it possible to actually touch the motor in the sun. Mine gets unbelievably hot.

Very nice rig.

So, am I the only one that noticed that in pics # 244 and 245, that you have a bar and a jail cell in your garage?

Did you get the sun deck option? I see brackets up front.
Ferdinando posted 09-05-2008 09:55 PM ET (US)     Profile for Ferdinando  Send Email to Ferdinando
Yep it has the Sundeck option. Matter of fact I asked for the Sundeck and the rear seat option after I agreed with the dealer on the final price. My wife insisted on the deck and seat, so I called the dealer and told him to include it. When the boat arrived and I went down to pay for it he told me that he included both options for free.
No complaints from me........

I will retire on the 30th of this month and I intend to take off a month or so to be with the boat, have to do some fishing and "blody" those decks. Here in Puerto Rico the Dorado season begins in Oct/Nov on the Atlantic side so I intend to make the best of it and put her through her paces.......
