Our beloved 305 Conquest has been cast adrift to find a new owner. She has been spurned for a bigger boat. We fell for the siren song of a big salon, dingy on the foredeck, standup shower and distant ports of call. Ignored in our infatuation were thirsty, maintanence hungry diesels and boat payments. Our new love seems cold and indifferent. We must learn about her and form an attachment. We hope the feeling is eventually reciprocated. In four and a half years and 1280 hours our Conquest has never let us down, carrying us through seas higher than her t-top and green water over her bow. Somehow she sheltered us, two oversize past middle age people, in her small cabin during many voyages of surprisingly long distances. Many fish ended their days in the dual macerated fish boxes and countless others were released. Reasonable care leaves her looking new and mechanically sound. We tell ourselves she is an inanimate piece of fiberglass, glass, fiber and machinery, but we don't really believe it and hope that she forgives us. We hope she finds a new owner who cares about her as much as we do. She is looking for you on Yachtworld, the lonely hearts club for abandoned boats. |

How can you do that much running, along with big seas, etc in Colorado? Just curious. |

We boat in Mexico with a home port of San Carlos on the Sea of Cortez. "Cazador" our ex-Conquest, is a veteran of three trips from San Carlos to East Cape below La Paz on the Baja side. She also journeyed from San Carlos to the Baja side on numerous occasions--a one way distance of about 80 miles. The Sea of Cortez fills in and out like a bathtub so there is a lot of tidal flow. When the wind blows against the tide there are short period wind waves sometimes scary high. We try to avoid the rough stuff but if you are out enough eventually you will get caught in it. We have tested "Cazador" in extreme conditions and she has never let us down. We are retired lawyers, hence a slight gift of gab. We are in San Diego waiting for our new boat. I hope she treats us half as well as the old one did. |

We try not to catch Humboldt squid. We still have half of the one we caught in the fall for bait in the freezer. Pangeros fish for them. The market price is 3 pesos (about 25 cents a kilo) cleaned. They can catch enough to almost sink a panga overnight and ship most to the orient. Eating quality is poor. They are tough and gamey unless tenderized and soaked in milk to kill the taste. Squid have been known to attack dogs, divers, pelicans and anything edible in the water. They have a beak like an eagle and can take off a finger. One of the sad things that is happening in the Sea of Cortez is that the squid are taking over for reasons not completely documented. Large preditor fish are much less numerous due to overfishing and the squid are taking over. |

They are veracious eaters and have a short lifespan. It is amazing that the more the Mexicans catch, the more populated the squid get. I have watched a bunch of shows on them. They said they were good to eat on one of them. |

Did you trade Conquest or are you selling on your own? I am considering selling my 05 Conquest and was wondering what the boat gods say about the market fot this boat type. Florida seems to have countless boats for sale but they do in good times as well. Also, did you run Opti's or Verados. |

Don't sell unless your kids are starving. Where there are lots of production boats for sale, only the lowest of the low get noticed. My boat had YamaMercs. |
