I have a 2008 Montauk 170. I noticed small amounts of rust forming at the weld [between] the spokes and center drum of the stainless steering wheel. Have others had this problem? What is the recommended brand of auxiliary motor mount for the 170 MONTAUK? I saw the REFERENCE article for mounting directly on the transom, but I probably just prefer four bolt fasteners of a motor mount over cutting into the aft deck for direct transom mount. I plan on just a 4-HP |

I have not had any rust on my 2008 170's steering wheel. However, this boat is stored in a garage, under a cover. I did find this "Made in China" sticker when replacing my Montauk's wheel, which may explain your [corrosion]. |

I thing if you do a search on this site you will find several bolt on brackets. Both Manually operated and electric. |

thanks all...fishnchips: looks like a pretty sturdy bracket...I like the piece of HDPE spacer btwn the bracket and transom. |
