Was this ever a factory option for a Whaler rear seat?

That is a high end aftermarket rear bench seat. It was discussed a few years back. A search may find it. I recall it was not cheap.

Found it. Made by Anderson Mfg.

Nice catch and reference!

I believe it is only a little more than what Whaler charges for the "jumpseats" that came in mine. They should make that an option, although I have not seen the new rear seats available this year.

Here are the current seat options available for the 170 Montauk. The Livewell can fit in between the 1/4 seats. http://s235.photobucket.com/albums/ee193/MorganMarine/Whaler%2009/ 170%20Montauk/

I like the bench seat option. I have the jump seats, and they are kind of "kludgy".

With all the prior discussions regarding rear seating on the Montauk 170, it is nice to see several options.

Thanks NYDealer for adding the information and photos of the bench option.

Is this aft bench seat as seen in the photos a factory only option or can it be bought and added after the fact to an '08?

Thanks

The new factory bench looks great. Hopefully with fit 2008 models?

Are these seat options available for the 190 Montauk ?

Thanks nydealer - I agree that the new bench seat option looks great - approximately how much do these cost (to install as well), do they fit the 2007 170 Montauks (I would think they would), and are they removable?

RE: Rear bench seat option on earlier model year Montauk 170s.

Per e-mail reply from Chuck Bennett on Jan. 6th 2009:
"Unfortunately, the reinforcements to install this option were not added to the Montauk until the 2008 model year...sorry."

Caperz, you'll find the rear seat option for the Montauk 190 on Fig. 2.9.2 of the Montauk 190 owners manual.

My research shows the area (bumpout) for the optional livewell becomes a storage area when the livewell option is not selected. Meaning the "bumpout" exists whether or not you go with the livewell option or not (unlike the Montauk 170 livewell option). This "bumpout" becomes the optional rear seat as shown in Fig. 2.9.2 of the Montauk 190 owners manual.

I called my local dealer for details on the factory rear bench for 2008+ 170 Montauks. Price was $1600 and change + 1 hour labor to install. Bench would need to be ordered but would only take a week or so to get it from the factory. I'm tempted.

Man, for approx $1700, I would so do that; and this season. No question between T-Top or rear bench at approximately the same costs - I would opt for the rear bench first. Especially as versatile as that one shows.

Alas, the 170 Montauk that I have is the 2007 model that apparently won't support this option. Drat!

Cheers to those that can and do get this option - I'd love to see pictures if you don't mind sharing.

Max -

If it is the issue of reinforcements in the floor, you could do the hockey-puck method (drill, route out foam, fill with epoxy and tap) to secure the bench to the deck.
