After about 30min of running my starbord engine began to run ruff and then stopped. I suspected fuel problems and tried to take out the fuel filter as per the manual's dirsction. However, I couldn't get the plastic cap off the filter. The manual intimates that it should only be hand tightened, but I couln't budge it, and stopped when I began to damage the plastic spines. I'll check with the dealer after the four day holiday, but would like some ideas before that.

There is a star tool merc makes for the filter removal. It is avail for approx 6 bucks of ebay - just search for verado. When you put it back on, you should use some dielectric grease or vaseline on the threads. Ethanol expands the filter and makes it terrible to get off if you have not done this. And if it's running rough, it's probably not the filter. It's probably the fuel float stuck on high due to ethanol. See your dealer for replacement under warranty.

Dick,
It can be the fuel filters, fuel module or the fuel float. If you have a 207 lift code on your alarm, any of the above can be the culprit.
