Whaler Enthusiasts:

Looking for name suggestions for my Eastport (Conquest) 205.

Considering variations of:

Bost N' It

Whalin It

Whalin Around

Suggestions appreciated.

Just a thought that was discussed years ago.
The name should be understandable; as in case you have to talk with someone over a radio about assistance. Many boat names are just too cute and not at all understandable in times of emergency.
Good Luck!

How about:

Poundn'It

Just Kidding.

Was out in some real sloppy stuff today in a 150 Mountak - That was my experience.

I suggest naming your new boat

[redacted]

I also would consider

[redacted]

and present the name in Chinese characters:

黄钟

I did have a Hydra-Sports named "The Filthy Oar". Coast Guard could give you some grief though sending that over the airwaves. My last Whaler was named "Buz Meg 2" and unless you are Hungarian you won't know what it means. Thank God there are no Hungarian cops by me.

It's a family boat.

The thread is misdirected. Maybe I'll name it selohssa.

We named our cruising 170 Montauk, "Voyager". Had I not used that I was thinking, "H.O.T.", when asked about the name Hot, It stood for "Hang On Tight". Hal of MN

"Reel Stupid Name"

As you can see I am trying to stress that ANY name with "Reel" in it is as stupid as stupid can get no matter how whitty one might think it is...IT'S GAY! However just to prove my own point I wanted to name my 19' Banana Revenge "Reel Ugly" but decided against it even though it was pretty whitty...it was STILL GAY!

Personally I think 90% of boat names are pretty stupid. My outlaws named their boat "The Happy Hooker" and they think it is sooooo whitty...IT'S GAY! Better than his last one though "My Joanna"

I saw a Montauk with "Dial 911" on upside down so if boat was upside down you could read it...pretty crafty. I like Sal A's name although I don't care for the size and the giant harpoon that accomodates it. Boat names should be whitty or crafty, just make sure you run it past your friends first so they don't call it GAY!

Since it is a family boat I guess "Beaver Squeazer" is out eh? "Whalin It" is not far off.

Tohsgib posted 05-28-2009 10:53 AM ET (US)     Profile for Tohsgib  Send Email to Tohsgib
PS...since it is a family boat I definately don't think you should name it Assholes...what do you think that would do for your family's reputation? Then again if in the NE it could be true and would let the rest of the boating community know why you almost ran them over. Scratch that...only relevant if you owned a SeaRay and had a bunch of gold dangling in the wind.
wbullwin posted 05-28-2009 10:57 AM ET (US)     Profile for wbullwin  Send Email to wbullwin
In addition to my 170 Montauk, I also have a 26' SeaRay that has over 900 hours on it over 11 years. Most of that time has been riding to a destination that involves having lunch, and then whatever after that the rest of the day. I saw a great name years ago in "Boating" magazine,

"Sir-Lunch-alot"

Buckda posted 05-28-2009 11:13 AM ET (US)     Profile for Buckda  Send Email to Buckda
How about "Medicine Man"?

Seriously, unless you find something that is a home run ahead of time, I think your boat will name itself - your family will just start to call it by that name. We had lots of boats growing up. Our SeaStar on lake Michigan was called the "B-Hive" - double-entendre for our last name starting with "B" and of course, a hive of activity. We had a green Starcraft called "the Green Machine"....a little boat that shipped people and gear from grandparent's cottage to ours became "the Shuttle", etc.

Cicada (Paul) here on CW has an 18 that named itself "Manitou" after he did a bit of northern cruising aboard the boat. (Manitou means great northern spirit).

I can pretty much guarantee that your wife or kids will name it within a year or so....

Dave

Good one Blue..how about "Edmund Fits Gerald"

Quote "I would go with something that reflects a unique characteristic or spirit of your particular boat and/or boating circumstance."

In my case that would be "Idiot who hit a piling and ruined a perfectly good Montauk but still swears it was not alcohol related"

I did see a sponge boat in Islamorada named the Andrea Gail and I was like HUH???? Talk about bad karma.

Blue where did "Alice" come from? Were you watching the "Land of The Lost" marathon this weekend. That was the name of the Allosaurus that was always fighting with "Grumpy" who was a T-Rex. Thank God it was the Land of the Lost because they lived almost 100 million years apart in real life. Then again Pakuna never existed nor SleeStaks.

Back on track here...I like "Kenosha Potion". Kinda fits the medical field thing as well. If he had a Menemsha this would be easier as "Reel Ugly" would have been perfect or "Menemsha Dimensha"

What will you primarily use the boat for? Fishing? Family pleasure boating? Both?

Bout' Time - either for about time for getting out on the water or hooking up on a fish.

I named my Dauntless 14 Lil' Twister after almost having it lost in a tornado after just buying it. Made it through unscathed so figured it was an omen.

"Edmund Fits Gerald" - that's actually pretty damn funny! Gives all new meaning to the poop deck.

When threads get over a certain number of responses they usually go down the tube and lose whatever value they had and this one is no exeption. I swear, sometimes I feel like I'm sitting in a 4th grade classroom and the teacher has been gone for 45 minutes. Oddly it's usually the same kids in the room ALL the time.

I can't believe David1877 gave up on the thread he started. He got some fantastic suggestions for a boat name. Personally, I love these threads asking for help with a boat name. I think they generally reveal the inner truth about contributors. Personally, I gave a lot of thought to my suggestions--[redacted] and [redacted]--and I am somewhat personally offended that there has been no reply. What's the matter with this guy?
