[Editor's note: the name of the Boston Whaler boat model being discussed has been corrected throughout this thread. An important portion of the discussion relied on a temporary listing of a boat for sale on an on-line site; the listing is no longer available and all references to it have been removed. It is not a particularly good idea to employ a temporary for-sale notice on a Craig's List site as the basis for discussion.--jimh]Why did [Boston Whaler] drop the 220 [DAUNTLESS]? On the official Boston Whaler website the three [DAUNTLESS] models made today are 180, 200, and 230. Are these three here for good? Or will the [DAUNTLESS] line be tweaked once again in the future?

Yes, of course at some point in the future they will be changed, updated, altered. |

Let's see. They've made a Dauntless in several different sizes and styles. Most were center consoles but a few were dual consoles or walkthroughs. There was a 13,14,15,16,17,18,20,23. Does that sound right? |

Which years did Boston Whaler make the 220 [DAUNTLESS]? I can't seem to find this anywhere. Why did they change to the 230 [DAUNTLESS]? I can't bear to part with my Montauk (the perfect boat) and owning two boats would be nonsense for me. Greetings to all--Philip |

The 22-foot Dauntless was produced from 2000 to 2007, the 23-foot Dauntless was produced from 2008 to present. As highanddry said, there's certain to be model and length changes in the future--not so different from automobiles manufacturers. |

Many thanks to contributor Buoy for the production information on the DAUNTLESS models. If production of the 220 DAUNTLESS began in 2000, this means the mold for it now would be over ten years old. It may be reasonable to infer that after more than ten years of production from the molds for the 220 DAUNTLESS that a renewal of the molds was necessary to retain the high quality that Boston Whaler demands for its finished products. If the molds were going to need renewal, there may have been a desire to update the 22-foot model to conform in style and design to the current DAUNTLESS models which were more recently designed. This may account for the removal of the 220 DAUNTLESS from the product line and its replacement with a 230 DAUNTLESS of newer design. |
