[Throughout this thread, acronyms were used to represent what I believe to be the model name "Outrage." The acronyms have been replaced with the word "Outrage." --Moderator]

What is the beam [of a 1998 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 17]? The interior and exterior freeboard? Cruising and WOT speeds with a 135 Optimax? Overall performance characteristics? How does the performance compare to a Dauntless 18?

I had a 1999 [OUTRAGE] 17. Nice boat. [An OUTRAGE 17 with an engine of] 135 [HP} should do over 45 [MPDH]. Beam is 7-feet. Freeboard is good. Side drains sometimes allow some water in. I prefer my current classic 18, so I guess an 18 Dauntless would be better -- I think the beam might be 8-feet on the Dauntless. If the price of the [OUTRAGE] 17 is good, then go for it. I don't know how those 135 Optimax engines hold out.

Is a 1998 OUTRAGE 17 based on the classic Outrage moderate V-hull? If so, it is really not a Post-Classic design.

The 17' Outrage of 1998 is properly known as the 17' Outrage II. It is an Accutrack hull design introduced for model year 1996 that has no resemblance to the classic Outrage 17 that it replaced..
