Do any of the owners of this model Whaler use davits to lift the boat? Is there a bow lifting ring that can be used for davit attachment? I think that this might be my next Whaler model to own, however I need to be able to lift it with my hoist. I have searched the site but could not find an answer or a photo of the anchor locker side of the bow eye. Thanks Chuck |

Chuck--CONTINUOUSWAVE does not try to collect photographic images of the current models of Boston Whaler boats. The Boston Whaler literature and website does a good job of providing images of their current production boats. |

Jim when I stated "photo" I meant an incidental picture which might have shown a bow lifting ring in the image. The Whaler information for current models did not mention a bow lifting ring unless I missed it. I hoped a member here may know or could take a look in their boat. Thanks Chuck |

Hit reply before I finished, I am interested in the 23 Outrage from 1998-2001. The classics do have the lifting ring and this is noted in the Reference section, the 2010 220 Outrage does not have this feature but permits a temporary lift with a hook from the bow eye itself using padding at the gunwale. Maybe someone still has their owners manual for 1998-2001 model? Chuck |

I think it's shown as item 70 "Eye Lifting" here: http://www.whalerparts.com/Diagrams/1999/230%20Outrage/pb230or01.pdf Seems it replaces a standard nut on the inside of the anchor locker on the eye bow u-bolt. The owners manual should show the correct rigging arrangement and confirm if this is it's intended purpose. Regards |

Thanks Steve that is a great help. They even call item #70 a lifting eye (part # 1033091).Maybe someone with this hull will also comment, they seem a bit rare to find and none are close to me.I think this would make a great family boat. Chuck |

conch, I have a 23 Outrage, As is weights nearly 6000 lbs with all the gear, water, fuel, T-top etc. I have not thought of using a David for its storage. I have not seen a boat this size slung like that as well. So, while I can not help you with storage, they are a great family boat, for fish, crabbing, tubing etc. John L. |

John good info , I was under estimating the weight by about 1000lbs.Davits come in many capacities and mine are 4500lbs each. I lift my 1983 15' in and out with only one of the two davits using a 3 leg wire bridle and after each use swing the boat inboard of the water so at night it rests on its bunk trailer which makes flushing and wash down a breeze.I think the rule of thumb for davits is 70% of weight at the stern davit so 6000 X 70%=4200lbs which puts my setup close to capacity. My other choices are(1) a seawall mount two leg boat elevator,(2) leave the boat tied up in the water,(3)trailer it, (4) replace my present setup with larger davits. My concrete davit pads are rated 10,000lbs each as I thought I might move up in size someday. The 230 Outrage I am considering does not have a painted bottom,it does have a T-top and trailer. The boat has been repowered with a Yamaha F250 fourstroke and looks great. Thanks for the info ,if I get this I am sure to have many questions. |

If you can store the boat out of the water, it's worth doing. Bottom paint is expensive and quite a bit of work to maintain. Consider how a lifting bridal might work with the T-top in place. It might need to be quite long to clear the top, and that may exceed the reach of your davits. |

Hi Conch: The anchor locker side has a big bow eye that is the same as the stern eyes inside the splash well. They look strong enough to connect lifting wires to. When I first got my boat I wondered what those eyes were for and my dealer told me they were for lifting the boat. The dealer seemed to think they were strong enough to support the boat’s weight. |

Never mind what your dealer - or any dealer - says. What does Boston Whaler say? Is there a section in the owner's manual about lifting your vessel? I'd follow the recommendations found there. Dave |

Thanks for the replies, member Steve (SJUAE)pointed me to the correct info at the Boston Whaler website which I confirmed with a call to them. The 23/230 Outrage can indeed be lifted by davits using the factory lifting eyes (one forward two rear). Andygere - I would not use a bridle as I do for my 15 Sport but would use both of the davits one bow,one stern with a spreader bar between the rear lift eyes. Diveorfish - That is what I was asking did someone actually have this Bow eye as I did not have a hull to look at,and the seller was not near the boat and didn't know for sure. Dave (buckda)- Whaler says fine to lift by factory eyes especially since the T-top was original Whaler. I will most likely replace my existing davits with a new pair with a capacity of 7,500lbs each (15,000 total). Sadly,I missed out getting the boat by one day. I thought $14,750 was a great price and offered above that to nearly twenty thousand and still no luck.Should have bought first and figured out the docking details later. For now my search for the right Outrage continues. |
